even for an avid bacon fan

this stuff put me down- wanted to barf all day after i put this chapstick on. my co worker asked me to try it bc she was going around the office getting feedback for a friend that is producing it. i didn't have the best of things to say... but hey, as a funny little gift that will never get used maybe it'll see. blarg!

memorial day weekend

wow it seems so long ago that i went to see angels and demons (i give it a 2 out of 5 stars-its the same(ish) as divinci code and i liked davinci code better). and ate at my fav mexican sport pequena 86 s portland (near lafayette) 718.643.0000. dinner was YUM and i just realized i forgot to bring my salad leftovers to work :( however now that i think about it it prob would have been quite grody!

saturday i had breakfast at tom's (mmmm)
and went home to chill at the park and go to target w kate and liz where we rode bikes
around the store and i found a gem for $149 that i will soon be purchasing! here she blows:

we did manage to purchase a grill and make some fancy burgers- i also made salad and guac and we dined out on the porch.

sunday i woke up and bought some plants/flowers for the house (feelin like a mom for sure) and hung around w liz/russ at the park and such. then we decided to use the grill again and make more burgers and turkey burgers to boot! (i made more guac).

monday morn m and i went to LI and stopped at a place called coffee shop (i think) for a yum breakfast and then off to the beach w e. shultz and his lady m
eredith. after the beach we went to swing bellys (my fv bbq spot on LI) for some bloody mary's and lettuce wraps and onion strings! (i got trashed). then we bbq'd at m's folks where his pops brought home 2 7 lb lobsters! they were ginormous!
around midnight i made waffle surprise and SOMEONE couldn't wait to take a bite (M!!!) and now i feel that i may have gone overboard (this is also my
new nickname for obvious reasons :)

also somewhere in the weekend i watched tomb raider again- great flick!

cheers to a short work week!

paper cuts

one of the creative directors i work with sent a link to really cool designs made with paper (she always sends really cool stuff). some are creepy some are amazing and ornate. this is a couple of my fav's

hello summer hours!

tis a nice kick off to the summer to have memorial day off and to get outta here at 2pm this friday! what will i do with myself? if it's sunny and hot i'll go park it at the park most likely. i have left my phone at the boy's house so i won't be contacting anyone :( i feel so nekked and disconnected! its crazy how much we rely on our phone devices these days. not much more to report... i had dinner w my gal jen in bayside queens at press 195 40-11 bell blvd (bet 40/41 ave) 718.281.1950 this place is a work staple when we have any free time at all or for birthdays. it has a ton of seating outside and indoor and its delish. pressed sandwiches amazing frites w homemade dipping sauces, salads and great appetizers. they also have an amazing bar selection-wine, sangria, and great speciality cocktails!

i watched (most) of heathers last night with winona rider and christian slater (before he went all weird and creepy). i forgot all the great one liners from this flick!
"did you have a brain tumor for breakfast?"
"what's your damage"
"It's one thing to want someone out of your life, but it's another thing to serve them a wake-up cup full of liquid drainer."
"Dear Diary, my teen-angst bullshit now has a body count."
"i'm gonna have to send my s.a.t scores to san quentin instead of stanford"

nothing is quite as amusing as this photo that my sister snapped

but the kicker is the caption!! (oh i have a slight fireman obsession if i haven't mentioned this).

pyuckie

so after i posted yesterday's exciting ice cream truck news i decided to visit the general greene for dinner 229 dekalb (at clermont) 718.222.1510 i hesitate to even give you the address and number bc it was sadly one of the barfy-est meals i've had in quite some time. this place is a whole shared plates kind of place which i like- if the food is edible. we ordered about 4 things  between the 2 of us: roasted eggplant (mixture) and toast, m had the bacon dates (extra barf *i like bacon, i like dates, but not at the same time!) i had a cobb salad which normally can't be screwed up but the chicken was not typical grilled chicken and was not a plentiful amount- the avocado was bitter and strange and plain not good (i'm not the only one that noticed). then i ordered veggie chili bc i was feeling ill for a good part of the day and wanted something warm and cozy. when it got to the table it looked ok, and i took a couple of bites and the beans were all right off the beanstalk. uncooked/stewed and just hard. GROSS. i love chili- all kind but this was redic. raw beans!? shame on them. i sent it back and did not get anything else and went to bed hungry w a horrible gut ache :( (booo hooo) oh- m had the french onion soup which was ok, but seriously lacking in cheese topping.

in other (better) news- me likey the whole truck craze of good food! now i hear rumors of a cupcake truck:

it, and according to Thrillist, the cupcake truck is finally a reality: “NY’s first gourmet cupcake truck, C-Stop’s the inspired creation of an NYU law schooler who, after the economy wiped out his post-grad job, decided other people should eat his feelings. Treats come mini-style for $1 and traditionally plump for $2.25, and include both standards (triple chocolate, red velvet, etc) and occasional specialty items (peanut butter & jelly, black & white cookie … ).” The preview route starts Friday at 6 p.m. at 23rd Street between Seventh and Eighth. i'll have the ice cream waffle sandwich please

i hear that there will be an ice cream cart of special stuff stationed outside of a restaurant on dekalb called general greene (229 dekalb ave at clermont 718.222.1510-which i have yet to patronize). this cart ny mag reports consists of beauties such as "philly style" ice creams with flavors like "the elvis" (soft textured peanut butter with banana and BACON) WHAT!? need they say more? there's also extremely nutty hazelnut and stumptown coffee (which is a whole post in itself since i love this coffee and it's taking over yummy brooklyn spots!) take a look at this beautiful picture. full article here:

turkey burgers are good

last night i took many things from m's kitchen and made turkey burgers (ahem... complete with pickled onions) and an awesome vegetable salad. i thought both were excellent actually. m "wasn't very hungry". hmmmm that or he'd rather have eaten dog food as compared to my colossal cooking? i think he was being honest (i think) i tend to have a bit more of an appetite than he at times.

i stumbled upon this donut article on ny mag's grub street. i only skimmed it to read the amazing flavor descriptions of donuts but i think they are looking for a vote as to which one to put on the "menu"- oh and they mention two of my fav things in the world in the first 2 sentances. check it:

We admit it: We were totally unsuccessful in our attempt to come up with a food meme to replace bacon, and Matt Lewis of Baked tells Eat Me Daily there will never be a “next cupcake,” either. His reasons are similar to the ones our readers gave: They’re cheap, they allow for creative license, and they’re soooo cute. That said, Dunkin’ Donuts is trying to validate 30 Rock’s claim (that we’re “off cupcakes and back to doughnuts”) by holding a "Create Dunkin's Next Donut" contest. Twelve finalists have just been picked — the sm’OREO is currently at the top of the list (below), but it’s still early.

• "A Nutter One" - A chocolate butter kreme-filled donut with peanut butter icing and chopped Reese's® Peanut Butter Cups (Carol D'Angio, Palm Beach Gardens, FL)
• "Bodacious Banana" - A Bananas Foster-filled donut with chocolate icing topped with shredded coconut (Christine Roman, Ellenville, NY)
• "Chocolate Monkey" - A Bananas Foster-filled donut with chocolate icing topped with Hershey®'s Milk Chocolate shavings (Michelle Ventura, Cranston, RI)
• "Economic Crunch" - A cake donut with chocolate icing topped with graham cracker crunch and butternut crunch (Michael McNeil, Aliso Viejo, CA)
• "Frozen Assets" - A chocolate mint Bavarian-filled donut with white icing topped with blue and green sprinkles (Kimberly Brooks, Orlando, FL)
• "Grandma's Blueberry Maple Donut" - A blueberry cake donut with maple icing topped with graham cracker crunch (Caitlyn Vandervelde, Coventry, RI)
• "Mexican Hot Chocolate" - A chocolate cake stick filled with marshmallow and topped with chocolate icing, Hershey®'s Cinnamon shavings and Hershey®'s Vanilla shavings (Jane Boderck, Easton, PA)
• "Sm'OREO" - A marshmallow-filled donut with chocolate icing topped with OREO® cookie pieces and graham cracker crunch (Laura Sherland, Smithtown, NY)
• "The Graham Slam" - A marshmallow-filled donut with chocolate icing topped with graham cracker crunch and white sprinkles (Nevrie Dauti, Wayne, NJ)
• "The King" - A Bananas Foster-filled donut with peanut butter icing and chopped peanuts (James Smith, Mount Vernon, NY)
• "Toffee For Your Coffee" - A glazed, sour cream cake donut topped with chopped Heath® Bar (Jeff Hager, Hoover, AL)
• "Tour de France" - A chocolate cake stick with hazelnut kreme glaze (Lindsay Piccotti, Clay, NY)

You can vote for a winner
here, but keep in mind the recipient of $12,000 will also be determined by a bake-off at Dunkin' Donuts University. Yes, there is such a thing. You hadn't heard of a little school in Massachusetts?

my one and only

cupcake head!

i got a few cupcakes for alli/george/eric (may b day's are popular) here's the sad state of the cupcake head that remained after the box made it from queens to brooklyn. these guys are also lethal! so much frosting that you know you shouldn't eat but its there so you kinda have to! hmmm maybe it wasn't the vegetarian food that made ill?? but rather 6 lbs of frosting.

weekend o drinkin' and b days

friday eve was me, my bath and my couch. chilled out and finally ate
garden grill 318 graham ave 718.384.8668 twas pretty damn tasty especially for takeout. i had a chicken souvlaki platter w a side of spinach pie. yumyum- everything was fresh to death and quite tasty.

saturday started out at teddy's 96 berry st between nth 8/9th 718.384.9787 (always delicious brunch and bloody mary's). w m and his bud sloan. i had my usual homemade chicken sausage patties w egg whites scrambled and a sizide of bacon. m's friend had a french toast sandwich! with ham and cheese between french toast and fries. it looked good, but i don't know sloan well enough to grab food off his plate (yet).

then it was off to day drink our faces off at the beer garden in astoria 2919 24th ave  718.274.4925 (after we all bitched about the fact that we were already next to the brklyn beer garden and begged the b day people to move their party- HA!). there was a queens vs. brooklyn battle of the bands that was quite amusing and a ton of people were out ta drink even though it was supposed to rain. it was good times and (good?) food served? i had some keilbasa and fries and had the retarded notion to order a strawberry crepe from this place!?? see what happens when i have a bloody mary first thing in the am and follow with 6 + beers?? yucky!

we stopped for a quick dinner at fabiane's 142 n 5th (at bedford) 718.218.9632have only stopped here fora quick lunch/coffee before, never dinner but i must say the dinner was pretty tight! i never order strictly veggie and i just happened to want the veggie chili and the veggie lasagna. one of the guys we were with (who obviously doesn't know me very well) asked if i was a vegetarian- everyone else laughed but something told me since i was eating so out of character that there would be trouble!

later it was right to continue the drinking and stop by a get together for v's b day at union pool 484 union ave (at meeker) 718.609.0484 this was an ill attempt to continue drinking as everyone i was with was already hung over from earlier. we tried our best to party on but as the pathetic group waned and my stomach started to gurgle we had to depart. apparently my body becomes quite confused when i eat strict vegetarian! then it started to pour and we held up in the house while folks listened to me whine about my tummy ache.

sunday we met o.g. and his sister and her friend at calle ocho 446 columbus ave (at 81st) 212.873.5025 this place was a scene! "brunch with a twist" according to o.g. its cuban style brunch w a sangria bar. about 6/8 flavors of fruity drunky sangria. all sweet and bacardi filled (perf for a day/night of prior eating drinking and stomach issues!) the food was damn good and george's sister allie and her homie amanda couldn't have been cuter. allie is a spitting image of her bro and has the same voice- only doesn't say things as vulgar as her counterpart. you need an rsvp here! peeps were in line for hours literally... thankfully o.g. had stumbled in the night before at 3am when they were in bar mode and made a reservation.

then it was more b day festivities.... to fat cat on christopher st 75 christopher st (at 7th ave) 212.675.6056 this place is a billiars/open mic poetry reading frenzy (??) on a sunday at 4:30. there are tons of pool table, ping pong tables for days, 3 foosball table (people were to pussy to challenge me) and a indoor shuffle board type of table (m and i won against o.g. and amanda) or as g calls her man doo doo.... its a cute nickname called to her
face- no worries she's aware. then i threw a tantrum for 16 handles and won! after that i felt like we had been on a tour of the world with so many types of foods/drinks/exhaustion etc....

now its monday! blah!

pic of the day

this is what i see in my head every time i look at or think of sweets! perhaps i am not alone!?

devastation

last night i was devistsated when my dvr screwed up and only recorded HALF of the real housewives of nyc reunion episode! arrrrg. i had been looking forward to this all week and then a big ole nuthin'- super disappointed. i suppose life will go on. in other sad news m went to lugers (pic included- not fair!) for dinner for a b day while i had wasabi 205 bedford ave between n 5th/6th 718.302.2035 (blah). it was better than i remembered bc i usually refuse to go to this spot but lat night it was pretty yum. i had chicken yakatori, miso soup, salad and a spicy tuna roll.

'taken' to congee village

last night for vanessa's b day (happy birthday yesterday vanessa) we went to congee village- 100 allen st near delancy 212.941.1818 this please is badass! i have always wanted to go. it a cheesy chinese restaurant on steroids. there's a huge water feature/fish tank under the stairs where you go up to your table and a bar with drinks so cheap i have dubbed this spot the place to go get sloppy upon starting your fri/sat (any) night. drinks are all $5 (martini's, jager, vodka's...) the food was pretty damn good as far as i am concerned! i had what you see here:

one of everything. seriously we ordered enough for even me between the 15 of us -there's always something extra i want that doesn't get ordered when i dine w a small group but we had everything from veggies, scallion pancakes,
beef chow fun, garlic chicken (yum), and snails. yea, take one guess as to who ordered that. i had one too, blah a sandy chewy piece of what kept being described as "tastes like broccoli" i'll take broccoli thanks.... then we had kate's famous cupcakes that were homemade- when vince asked kate if they were homemade she retorted "yes, they were made in my home." they were damn good! AND so was the banana wafer cream pudding from magnolia bakery-401 bleeker st 212.462.2572 that vince and james brought! holy shit. this stuff is some seriousness. i talk smack about magnolias overrated status and the lines and the nazi style with which the place is run, bur for this pudding-type fluffyness of love in a cup...i'd easily wait in an hour line like a shmuck!

then i managed to stay awake (prob bc m yelled at me at one
point when my eyes closed) for the movie 'taken' with liam neeson. it was actually pretty good and gave me one measly point back on my movie picks scale i believe bc m like it too (no matter what he says). liam is a for real o.g. in this flick. kickin' all kinds of asses all over the place. he's an ex us gov't operative of sorts who's daughter gets taken by some pretty serious foreign shysters to be sold as a sex slave to even more serious pervs with tons of cash.... sounds pretty blah? it's not, the movie is fast paced and entertaining.

happy almost friday

5/13/09

how did i forget!??

to mention not only my star sighting this past weekend but my star crush! (one of them). walking on crosby st in soho i happened upon david duchovny and almost melted. then i saw his wife (tea leoni) and 2 grown kids waiting not far away for him to catch up (blah). i am convinced he fell behind bc he was in awe of my striking beauty as he locked eyes with me while walking. sure he was wearing sunglasses but that's only so he could fool the wife! i am convinced :) obsessed with him and his show californication. i even have a clip of the ad for the showtime show hanging up at my desk! yumyum. he even looks ridiculously HOT in these barfy leather pants!?

good day

5/12/09

ahem... WHAT!??

large market of food vendors? yes please!

last night i ate too much chinese food and fell into an early coma at about 9:45pm while trying to watch 'finding forrester' w sean connery (love em') and rob brown (love this guy too). great movie that came out in 2000 and i hadn't seen it since- guess i'll have to finish it this week (surprise). besides that i am a bore and want to go to the new fulton stall market asap! check out some of the vendors:

tha weekend

friday night i liz and i had a date at one of my favorite sushi places in ny cube 63 -63 clinton st near rivington 212.228.6751 this place aint the cheapest but its always quality! its a tiny spot so call ahead or get lucky like we did. they did however ask me if we could eat and be done in an hour lol. fortunately liz and i are both: in, eat (quick), and be done type gals. the tool that sat next to us had a date with some gal and wasn't so keen on the request when the hostess asked him the same question; he did not stop talking about it the whole time they sat there.

then we ventured to fat baby 112 rivington (at essex) 212.533.1888 fer some drinkin and dancin. kate met us and as usual we were there around 9/9:30 and got our designated booth bc "cool" people don't come out til about 11pm and then they all stnd there w no seats lookin like chodes. we tired of the fat baby and walked around to find ella 9 ave a (at houston) 212.777.2230 i wrote about this place a while ago in the winter bc m and i went to a going away for one of his friends and i could tell i would like the spot and wanted to go back. its a beautiful space with a 1920's theme.  it's my new favorite spot for sure. amazing dj, decent mix of people and decent drinks! it was a blast and i like the way the place is set up. i danced a wee bit hard and drank a wee too much and therefore the night was a success.

saturday i woke up hangover free!? and had brunch at dizzy's (park slope) 511 9th street near 8th ave 718. 499.1966 my friend sarah works here and i caught her for a quick hello where i am sure she despised me for enjoying a saturday while she slaved away. later we walked all around brooklyn and went to the dog park on grand ave and kent. a tiny little park right on the east river. stopped in marlow and daughters 95 brodwat (at berry) 718.388.5700 where i gazed lovingly at all the pork products, grabbed a coffee at some spot on broadway near kent ave and wandered into a really overpriced antique shop....

later i finally dined at a spot i have been meaning to try for a whileaqua santa 556 driggs (and n 7th) 718.384.9695 am ashamed that i have lived in the hood for 3 years and had not been there yet. they have a great outdoor/indoor patio that is so inviting and every time i walk by i always think i want to go- glad we decide to. its amazing food and service.we met the owner who is a doll of a man that likes to make not funny jokes :) great food and good people (james) were in tow along with some comp'd grapa after dinner. this stuff is lethal and delicious- tastes like a mix between tequilla and whisky. we all shared an amazing brink oven zza as an app along with some delicious eggplant mixture with melted mozz. all dishes were mouth watering. m had a giant fish (with teeth entact!) and james had an amazing chicken stuffed w spinach and cheeses in a cream sauce. i had the chicken catch-a-tori. (i think this is how it should be spelled).

sunday was brunch at brooklyn label 180 franklin st 718.389.2806 they seemed to NOt be on their game this day. my eggs were runny and the hostess had a breakdown after some dick-penis-head cursed her out. the pork atop the chili colarado (which they are known for and is usually delicious) was skimpy. then i went to visit liz at work (brooklyn fox 132 n 5th at bedford 718.599.1555) amazing bra's and panties here! and then it was off to the city to get a "haircut". i put this in quotes bc i never let anyone cut my hair. don't recall when i was traumatized but i was at some point bc i won't ever let anyone change it no matter how much i do want a change! ahhhh. i am annoying. i am considering going back this week and actually letting her CUT it bc i think i like what she did?! but then again i am kind of feeling like a 4th stooge. bang thingy's are kind of undecided at this point? we shall see.... i ventured into top shop on broadway. everyone's talkin about this place? why? i have no idea! super cheap made stuff for not super cheap? lame. then i walked to union sq and back to bklyn where i am content. liz and i later had dinner at lobo 218 court street (near warren) 718.858.7739 liz and i both rad about it in alex's fav spots in cobble hill (alex being one of the real (lame) housewives from nyc). ha! it was good tex mex and we stuffed ourselves silly. then had some tasti-d! upon feeling like i may explode we went home to watch 'last chance harvey' with dustin hoffman and the sweet gal i love that can do no wrong (except this movie) emma thompson. i give it 1.5 stars. it was a cute idea but just didn't need to get made. thankfully liz watched w me and i did not have to ask m who would've added it to my tally of crap chick flicks that he is holding against me for ammunition i am sure. to do what with i can't say, but i know he is!

*side notes*
+ somewhere in here i made sugar cookies that were ok. i used my moms homemade frosting recipe but skimped on the cookies and used pillsbury store bought :( also just realized the frosting leftovers are in m's fridge (oops)

+ danced with a nice african fella from ghana who asked me "where i learned how to shake my hips like that?" makes a white girl from tennessee proud!

+ i woke up around 6 ish this am and was so cozy and happy that it was sunday- then my alarm went off an hour later and i almost cried. no idea why i thought it was still the weekend :( wishful thinkin'.

happy monday

busy day! so busy i have no info to post :( happy freakin friday. glad to see this week off and done with! oh yea- this is me today:

5/7/09

rain rain go away

so since its apparently monsoon season and nothing fun is to be done liz, kate and myself ventured to mug's ale house 125 bedford ave (near n 10th) 718.486.8232 this spot is usually used for beer and getting sheesh faced but we decided to dine. the menu is pretty standard bar food and i had the salad special (black olives, tomatoes, onion, avocado) and added chicken. it was surprisingly delicious considering one should generally stick with burgers in a joint like this. i would recommend this spot for some good fairly cheap chow-only bummer- they didn't have chili! which is not only listed on the menu but listed as 'chili of the week'. arrrg

this morning i learned via kexp ny; my favorite ny am radio show) 91.5 on the fm dial, that it is iggy pop that sings 'lust for life' i also learned that that's what they are saying in the chorus (after many years of thinking it said g-d knows what). i can't decide if i like this song , its been bastardized by a handful of brands for commercial use. conor and i think it's been in an amusement park commercial and a retirement add for something like  fidelity or elder care.... boooo.

5/6/09

i am handy

last night i hung my new curtains in my bedroom all by myself! i figured something would go horribly wrong and it wouldn't be as easy as i thought but umbra products are apparently pretty quality (hardware such as tension rod, frames, etc...). then i watched the finale of real housewives of new york city (moment of silence please). thankfully these bitches are so popular that there's a reunion next tuesday and it was so colossal that they had to split it into 2 nights so i will have 2 more shows to view.

later i watched some horrible nat geo show about 'unpredictable animals' (and i'm not talking your avg puppy or cat) these were crazy aligators and bears in the wild. unpredictable?? ya think!? some chick got mauled by an otherwise "calm" breed of alligator- that's what you get for being DUMB. (he chomped her hand but she's ok now). then they showed a horrible episode where the running of the bull (this never seemed like the brightest idea to me) tradition went awry. this guy got tossed like my rainbow brite doll! the grasshopper mouse was my favorite. it was so cute and is apparently an o.g. bc it waxed the deadly centipeade and fed it to its babies for din din. the narrator explained "the grasshopper mouse is a creature not to be trifled with". quote of  2009 possibly!? you can tell the quote holds true just by looking at this little fella's mug:

last night m cooked at his house for jared, alli and i. it was spectacular. we had floor chicken, pasta noodles the size of something out of honey i blew up the kids (they were huge man, serious- like the size of the "noodles" you bring to the pool or the beach) jared made a rad lemon caper sauce (fancy schmancy right?) some brussels sprouts (steamed and seasoned by yours truly), scallops, some roasted veggies and a starter salad! OH, what is floor chicken you ask? its really delicious chicken that was accidently dropped on the floor, rinsed and re-cooked and actually came out very good. NO its not gross- eff off! the floor was just vacuumed and cleaned that day and the 5 second rule def applies! kicking myself for having no photos of the meal- clearly the rain has seeped into my brain. alli turned me on to a new pandora station- i need to ask her the artists name again. gio soccio?? somethin' like that? i'll get back to ya on that.

felis cinco de mayo!
