MOVING

moving sucks!! oh the things you uncover: birth certificates, journals and diaries (yikes), diplomas, psy chai certificates (reminds me- i need to go to grad school), pictures! and junk! feels great to trash old stuff you never use or want to look at ever again. i am the definition of pack rat. i refuse to throw most things away. don't get me wrong- i am not like those ladies that go oprah and have to be dug out of their home due to over saturation of goods (my sister would beg to differ but she's dumb) but i  hate throwing things away be it clothes, or ticket stubs from memories circa 2001 or drawings from paper table tops at a dinner from 7/2/2003. clothes is a biggie with me- we all know some things DO come back in style and i feel that i do pretty well with my stuff and i get much use out of it! 

later i was sucked into the vortex of lifetime television after i sat on the couch and was exhausted from 2+ hours of digging through closets and OLD memories. why i am a sucker for LTN i will never know. the more trashy the more i am affixed to said sofa and refuse to even change during commercials for fear i may miss a steamy love scene between tow reincarnated lovers (the interesting twist from last nights nora roberts 'midnight bayou' (starring the one and only jerry o'connell) was that he came back as a man but was once a woman 100 yrs ago and his lover was once a man 100 yrs ago! gasp!)

this weekend can be described in one word...

blah! blahdey blah! BLAH!

ok, that felt better (a bit). nothing much to report except that i feel much like the fish pictured here that m had for dinner friday night at chimu. it was a nice dinner (con kate and george) and then turned into one of those annoying try to have fun and stay out and drink bc you have co-workers that may be coming to meet you nights. then you have a slight tummy ache and then your phone dies so look like an ass right after your co-workers text you! then you go home and are miffed bc you feel like friday was a bust.

on saturday you have what you think is a mildly neat day going to the brooklyn botanic gardens (which were fun even though the outside (large) section is not in bloom yet-*i can't wait to go back in a few weeks!) you even purchase cacti and sip sodas and a root beer float with your honey at an awesome old school diner. then you decide to go to dinner (at katz's deli 205 east houston @ ludlow 212.254.2246) dinner is ok, and then you try to go to the movies not knowing showtimes or what you want to see and parking is a bitch and you are all cranky and grouchy for no reason. then your man gets fed up and decides he'd rather go home (he does) and you feel like a poopstick! then you stay at the movies and watch a slightly (blah) flick 'the haunting in connecticut' starring kyle gallner (who you convince yourself you like more than your man bc you are mad at him) and you have a grouch face the whole night and alllll the way home. GARBAGE saturday evening!

sunday you awake in a piss poor mood and its disgusting out and you want to sleep but you get awoken by a text from the devil himself (aka m when i was still "upset" with him). and you ponder how your sunday will go... then you decide to lay in bed angry! and text back a while later that that's exactly what you will be doing. then you receive a cute picture of your fav dog (and a PUPPY to boot- wicked ploy) and you decide your dumb and you know you really want to be with your yummy man so you tell him to come get you (*note this is a bad idea when you know you are still in a "grouchy" mood) it will surely end in tears and screaming that are unnecessary! ahhhh...aint life grand?

did i mention i lost my sally hensen nail pen that i blogged about below!?? maddening i tell you!  

ok it's monday! a new week! done bitching for now. sorry for ruining any part of your weekend m  :)

OH WAIT! i forgot the best part! by "helping" me with my iphone m (and i) managed to delete all my contacts! a great ending to a lovely weekend!

sally hansen saves the day

just thought i'd share my exciting new purchase with you- i finally caved and bought the "cuticle pen" (brought to you by who else but sally hansen). i have been eyeballing it for a few weeks. the $6.25 price tag seemed to finally make sense! i ALWAYS have annoying fingernail/cuticle issues and must sometimes shred, chew, pick (yes, yummy i know) but i have been so cheap in the past and thought that lotion may help (which i was always to lazy to even apply- and its messy). now i am thrilled with this handy little no mess pen that i can throw in my bag and use at my leisure. nice hands=happy times *note- why do i feel like i am writing a script for one of their infomercials?

do yourself a favor and dine at peaches 393 lewis ave (btwn decatur and macdonough) 718.942.4162 i heart this place. its always amazing. delicious country southern food. last night i had: an amazing glass of house red wine, the pulled pork sandwich with fries and for sides: 1 black eyed peas and 1 brussels sprouts with bacon! m had the baby back ribs with sweet potato fries and a giant lettuce wedge w bacon and blue cheese and really great creamy homemade dressing! their desserts are so tasty as well (get the lemon pound cake with fresh berries) i have had it before and saw about 10 people order it last night but didn't have any dessert myself :(

i must say- i am obsessed with this band. they make (AND PLAY) all their own amazing music. i've only been to 2 shows but they are fantastic live as well! their album 'the dust of retreat' was played front to back on repeat ev day when i was going through "tough" girly emotional bullshit (aka a dumb boy broke my heart) and now even though it reminds me of crap times i love their music and now they apparently have a new album called 'not animal' check them out!

unfortunately i can't exactly take credit for the find. my sister and her friend were driving in nashville (yay ville') and nearly ran the band over in a parking lot (surprise-if you have ever been a passenger while liz is driving this will not be of shock to you). they then decided to go into exit/in (i think was the venue) and check them out and needless to say -- they were pretty cool!

fell asleep trying to watch...

'rachel getting married' with anne hathaway. arrrg- really frustrating to fall asleep when you have rented a movie and for some reason when you have to go back and finish a movie that you missed the end of its never the same or as good! from what i caught this flick was "ok". anne hathaway kind of bugs me in some werid way- she always has. maybe bc she's just oh so... i don't know sweet looking. let's be real princess dairies was cute, but in this film she a troubled addict released from rehab for her sisters wedding. she also seems to be an attention starved little brat with the desire to be a "goth chick" if you will.... that's all i could get from it until i go back to finish it -and will surely be unimpressed? i also think anne should stick to the "i am cute and sweet" roles and maybe that's what annoyed me about this movie? i don't know...but if its worth a shit, i'll report back.

chick flick tear jerker!

watched 'the ultimate gift' last night-starring abigail breslin, bill cobbs (the adorable dude from demolition man?? damn m you were right!) and night at the museum, drew fuller (yummm) and brian dennehy. i popped this in to fall asleep to and finished it! i have been notorious lately for falling asleep during flicks and this one snagged me! its quite adorable. a really well done rich kid needs to be taught a lesson movie with some decent acting and some cheesy heart wrenching (but done well:). abigail breslin steals the show for shizzle she's totally bossy, brilliant and adorable. def a (feel bad for a sec) feel good film. if you can weasel your man into watching it... do it! if not watch alone and let the waterworks flow!

good enough to eat!

yummy weekend! friday night kate m liz and i went to caracas 291 grand st near havemeyer 718.218.6050 we brought our own wine (and a fifth of jameson) and chillaxed for quite a while while we sampled he menu- such a while in fact that we were kindly asked to depart bc we had been sitting a while and there was a giant line (oops). the spot was quite good and the arepa i had (pictured here) was fantastic! the food is damn good and i had been wanting tio try this spot for a while. i won't be running back as soon as possible but it some good eatin'. all the arepas (read the website if you have no idea what i'm talkin) are a great combo of tastes and flavors. mine which was basically chicken salad on a super crunchy english muffin (arepa) and made me happy. 

next on the list was saturday brunch w o.g. (my fav) liz and m. george suggested some spot called good enough to eat 483 amsterdam ave (at 83rd street) 121.496.0163 and obviously all i could think was the place better be "good enough to eat" if i am haulin my ass up to the upper west- and i know o.g. knows what's up so i had an inkling that there would be a line (and that no matter wht george would make us 

stand in it). was i right? of course! we stood in a line for about 30/40 mins (which seemed like an hour bc it was chilly and it is NOT yet spring contrary to popular belief). wht i found inside however, i would gladly stand in a 3 hour line for (again)! holy moly! good enough to eat? try good enough to make love to! i can't even describe how amazin

g everything looked and tasted! i had homemade sausage patties, a blt omelette (bacon gruyere cheese and tomato) and it came with 2 hot biscuits and strawberry butter! i also shared my sisters grits (delicious) and some of the tastiest bacon i have ever had. let's put it this way: this place is in the top 3 breakfasts i have EVER had (ever) :) mmmmm

after such a good bfast we all had a wild hair to venture out to long island for a day trip of sorts to look at the ocean and get antsy for the summer! (oh ps- we had also worked up he appetite by purchasing a new leather chair for $200 from a really nice lady (craigslist) which russ and i ended up carrying up 4 flights of stairs!??? it shall go into the new apt-- packing and moving soon! yay! (yuk)

dinner sat night was at houston's 378 park ave south (at 27th st) 212.689.1090 pretty good stuff as usual-- so stuffed we didn't make it to a movie. i had a really good salad (thai chicken salad but of course i opted for beef and chicken (which houston's serves really thin sliced in their salads!) we obviously had the famous spinach dip app. and russ had amazing ribs!!!

i like electronic??

this morning on my commute in wkxp (91.5) my favorite station in the am (best show ever form 6am-9am) did a quick documentary (pop goes electronic) on electronic. i didn't realize soft cell, the cure, new order, depeche mode and other great 80's stuff i really like is "electro or electronic" hmmmm- call me slow but i didn't know that was the genre? now my pandora.com station os set on the soft cell station.

the newest addition to our (kates) family! here's the little fella in action last night. he is terribly cute and quite calm (not petrified i promise). you will want to snuggle with him the minute you meet him! 

can't make it through a movie these days!

i always fall asleep during movies lately! i tried watching australia last night and of course... fell fast asleep. i think its a decent flick? nicole looked pretty enough and did some fine acting from the 30 mins i could stay awake. what's his name is entirely too jacked and in shape for my liking! hugh, calm down on the bowflex buddy! also not fair as my friend is in aussie land as we speak! also ate at fornino (previously blogged about) and i was quite unimpressed last night. soggy brick oven pizza and clams as an app that were apparently not so great... i didn't have any (yuk). not a sea food person.

holy fat fest

on st. pattys day i chose not to partake in green beer or any type of over indulgence in alcohol but in an overdoes of bar/irish themed food! i went to mullane's 71 lafayette ave (near fulton st) 718.797.7606 between alli, michael and i we ordered the following: 1 irish nachos (basically reg nachos only they are made with french fries- the works with chili, sour cream, cheese salsa... 1 irish mixed grill platter (tons of meat *even too much for me) this included sausage, ham, a pork chop and 2 or 3 other things i don't even know what. 1 corned beef sandwch AND a mac and cheese! obviously i am feelin' GREAT this am! of course i had to top that off with something sweet (duh!) and m was nice enough to indulge me with a piece of red velvet cake from cake man raven 708 fulton st 718.694.CAKE again- feelin' great! yaaarg. tomorrow i will post the flyer m brought home for the "2nd annual cupcake gala" its priceless! stay tuned....

piggy smalls, oasis and an A.P.B.

last evening vanessa and i went to meet (well i met for the first time) piggy smalls! kates new addition! he is by far the cutest most adorable and awesome guniea pig i have ever come across! so cute and i forgot to take pics!! those will come soon!

then we ventured to oasis 161 n 7th ave (@ bedford) 718.218.7607 i can't believe i have not written about oasis sooner! its some of the (most reasonably priced) and top falafel and platters/hummus/salads in ny! i guess i haven't been there too often lately but its worth your while to check it out -and its right above the L train stop at bedford! 

later (around 12:30am) i had a scare! (vanessa!) i had left my phone in my car and was at m's who got a late phone call. it was kate and he handed me the phone. kate was in quite a tizzy bc she had received a call from james/vanessa's mom bc some strange lady found vanessa's phone on a train (or train tracks!??) in queens!?? needless to say no one could get a hold of little miss vanessa so there was a panic. first i thought kate was worried for no reason (also maybe bc when i received the call i had had some of the wacky tobacky). a little while later i started to think horrible thoughts. i remembered that vanessa's blackberry was dead so she wouldn't be answering that and people were facebook-ing her as well with no response (funny how we can try to communicate these days in a emergency!). anyway james saved the day and took a cab to v's house and called kate to inform her that he found vanessa! phew! good lord! i was so stressed i ate a huge piece of leftover chocolate mousse cake at 1am (had crazy dreams) and am now paying for it (vanessa i blame you!) :) but we are glad your ok!

carmines and the trio of fun

zzzza! liz, fuss and me went to carmines 358 graham ave (near metropolitan) 718.782.9659 this spot is a yum italian little joint run by carmine himself. its quality and consistent. the cobb salad is amazing! homemade bacon bits are key! i also had a pasta soup and we all shared antipasto (which was ok...it was atop a huge salad??) once again liz and i procrastinated cleaning- so i will have to do that today in order for my landlord's broker to come take pics of our place to advertise it online. i'd like to think our place is cute enough that people will look online and loove it! i hope so bc someone needs to rent it asap! can't believe my sister has convinced me to jump on board this let's move out tomorrow train. oh, did i mention i am broke? yarg.

BROKE in the city!

when it rains it pours! you always owe everything at once-or is that just me!? arrrg so over it and need to play lotto (there's more $$ i toss down the shitter *novel idea serkin) and MOVING lemme tell ya how much fun and how thrifty that is!!!

anyyyyhow enough whining fer now, though i have written about it before i will tell you of my yummy adventures at chimu 482 union ave near meeker 718.349.1208 i could literally stick my head in a trough of their toasted corn (*which -speak of me being broke is FREE at the table when you sit down and if your extra nice you can ask for a refill ;) last nights food was on point! i ahd the 1/2 chicken which come with rice and beans or salad AND 2 empanads for an app (they are always crispy and perfect) one beef and one chicken of course. oh i also had my favorite salad (avocado)- theirs is the best and their dressing, not to mention all their sauces (mint green colored hot sauce-NO mint flavor just its color) and the oil/cilantro secret dipping ramekin of love! yumm. and damnit when m is away bc i never remember to take pics of my food :( well, that and i kinda miss him (a lot)! yep- cornball alert.

generally nothing is beyond me stuffing it in my mouth (pause) but this little fella is almost too cute to imbibe (maybe)! i stumbled upon this on the web (ny serious eats- great site!) and guess what!? it just happens to exist at a bakery around the corner from my office! it aint my birthday but it is one of my friends b-day's today! hmmmmm great excuse!

nothing exciting. i went to noodle studio last night! 116 n 5th st between bedford and berry 718.218.7260 as always this place is a score! delicious CHEAP thai food. yumm. accompanied by my 2 new roomies (my sister who i have been livin w for the last 2 yrs and the addition -fuss! aka russ aka fuzz (m can't get it (fuss) right). fuss is my ssters man but he cool! anyhoo we went to visit our new potential dwellings last night and had a meal at noodle. besides that not much to report. boooooring!

spring cleaning!

this weekend was chillll and chock full of cleaning time. friday m and i went to eat at vamos! 350 1st ave (at 21t street) 212.358.7800 (i only put the exclamation point bc that's their logo and i am being proper) mexican is my fav and this place was total garbage! YUk!! when the chips and salsa (tastes like catsup) are gross you know your meal is gonna be narsty! i can't even remember what i had now- oh yea, enchiladas which were just ok at best... blah enough about that place. 16 handles made up for the torture ;) 

saturday i woke up at 6am to take m to the airport so he could jet off to steamboat co for a week of boarding. no fair! and then he has the nerve to send me pics of delicious "steamboat burgers" (pictured here). ummm, nice freakin view btw!

saturday i ran around all day w liz, fuss, and the gang bc it was 70 DEGREES here!!! the spring is coming and that makes me smile! sat night i organized my closet and drawers! getting a jump start on the spring clean and ditching shoes/shirts that i have had since high school and have refused to throw out prior- i am somewhat of an el pack-o rat-o!

sunday was another day of cleaning -only this time it was tink (or tinkerbell aka my car) there was among other things an umbrella graveyard and a salvation army of sorts that had begun to accumulate in the trunk. sunday night i fianlly took a gang of folks to brooklyn label 180 franklin st 718.389.2806 for dinner bc their brunch is amazing! WOW on their dinner too. i had a bit of everyones food but i ordered the homemade chicken fingers and shoestring fries. AMAZIN' best i've ever had (no exaggeration). mmmm

the weekend was ok

friday was chill (after a minor girl tantrum i subjected m to :) and we visited a cool drink spot in ft greene the public house 247 Dekalb Ave (between Clermont Ave & Vanderbilt Ave) 347.227.8976 -after another tantrum about there being no menu for food we were brought a complimentary nacho plate! which was delish! they are in transition with their chef and were passin' around these plates of love to get feedback and when i saw them going around i demanded one! sometimes it pays to be a brat. 

saturday was dinner at essex 120 essext st (corner of rivington) 212.533.9616 my homie amanda is the mgr here so we gets the hook up. it was pretty good food (we ordered about 7 appetizers) and had really good drinks! the bar tender was quite good! then it was off to fat baby! could there be a better name for a spot. this is hands down my fav spot in the les. great venue not too big and the crowd is pretty chill. the dj is super nice and super stylin'. i imbibed way too many vodka/bull's and danced my face off!

sunday was chill--- rainy snowy day in bed watching weird old harrison ford movie about a family that picks up and moves to central america bc they are sick of the usa. called mosquito coast -i think. then it was williamsburger for  AMAZING hamburgers and fries and oniion rings and shakes! yum!
