best pastry on the west coast!

forgot to mention the most amazing pastry i've ever had. one morning faye and i went for coffee at this new little spot bistro 101 909 prospect street (bet fay and drury) 858.454.8801 and i happened upon a "jesuit". the word def has a religious connotation and believe that i would worship this thing... its layers of flaky pastry/croissant-like crispy and yet fluffy with a tiny bit of custard in the middle and a meringue layer atop! to die!!!! and the coffee was one of the best cups i've had anywhere.  i miss la jolla!

2012 tha movie

saw 2012 last night and boy was it quite intense! the graphics don't disappoint and the movie really does keep ya on the edge of the ole' seat. i found myself doing things like getting all tensed up and willing an airplane or a boat to get up higher or not hit something. you know what i mean? as if you were flying a plane (which looks easier than i thought by the way) or in charge of driving that camper? anyhoo cusack does really well and so does the big russian i kinda liked according to imbd his name is zlatko buric and lemme tell you how great woody harrelson is! yea, i didn't realize he was in it either... he does an amazing job! go see it.

crazy fish

visited the san diego aquarium w the bro today and boy were there some sights to see! i usually don't love zoo's aquariums etc because while i know people are doing good and trying to preserve in most cases places like those depress me. i saw some amazing things today - particularly breeds of jellyfish but still, there were some tanks that were too small for these guys to live life and enjoy.... clearly my favorite part was the shark that let us take pics with him. :)

serky turkey!!!

sometimes the best thanksgivings are the ones where you decide screw it- we'll try to cook in a teenie tiny little kitchen and no matter what tastes come out of it at least we'll be together and at least we have some grub! sadly minus liz we cozied up in the condo in la jolla and moms (i helped a bit too:) got crackin in a kitchen the size of one in a camper. usually we have a bunch of people over and cook a giant turkey and order some fancy sides and maybe some other guests bring a dessert etc. this year the homemade goodness was the best thanksgiving ever! mom made gravy from scratch, sweet taters, green beans and a gangster turkey. i demanded cream corn mac and chee as well as mashed tatos so i grabbed ready made sides and spuds in a box and made them myself! all 3 of my generics were daaaamn tasty and i was proud- i doctored them in my own little way, and they was gooood. :) family is rad and i have a lot to be thankful for!

obsessed w la jolla

every time i am here i start to ponder a move a little more and realize that my little bro got the brains of the operation!! 5 min walk to a beautiful beach, amazing temps year round, great community- helllllo. deelish food. last night the folks and i dined at bernini's 7550 fay ave la jolla ca 92037 858.454.5013 really great italian-like bistro. we had an app to dizzle for. eggplant involtini: roasted eggplant and mozz cheese warmed and topped basil and a great marinara. pops had the fish special (escarole) and everyone at the table raved. i had a fantastic chicken dish w capers, white wine sauce and veggies. service was impeccable and everyone was super nice. cheers to la jolla.

some things i learned this weekend/this am

+ it's really hard to make yourself realize you have to let go of something

+ the lyrics to kelly clarkson's song "already gone" are heart wrenching bc they are true for so many people

+ i'd not be sane if it weren't for my cat eek (and my sofa)

+ tbs runs really good kiddie movies all day on sundays

+ you can watch approx 4.5 movies and about 4 shows in 24 hours if you don't leave your tv (and can also manage to not hear a word of what your watching if your mind is elsewhere)

+ that a bowl of granola can make you cry??

+ the frozen spoon thing kinda does work for puffy eyes

+ you have to love and be comfortable with yourself first and foremost

+ need to be WAY more conscious of my mood and actions and make more of an effort- sometimes it's just the little things that matter most and can make a world of difference...

so glad to be gettin outta ny for a little- off to la jolla with the fam for turkey. hope everyone has a great thanksgiving and is thankful for their health, their friends, and their loved ones!

you never realize how much a pet impacts your life. i miss my kitty that passed away wednesday 11/18/09 she was the best and i had her for 15 years! she was just an ole lady and it was time for her to chill. i will miss you mooshie!!!!

today was super busy. the morn started w a trip to the city at 8am to look for items for a photo shoot... got in at 1:30 and been so slammed have not moved from the desk once.

the weekend- i'd rather forget some of it right now. i did pick up scratchy maybe photos of her will come soon. sorry so blah but busy and blem blem (as esther would say).

hoping for a cheery day tomorrow. modays suck anyhow...

not much to report here... going to pick up scratchy tomorrow! (don't get any strange ideas- its my new cars name- not an std) super excited but apprehensive about change/$ etc. but alas change-new things = good stuff! soooo, i shall make it work and have a reliable car- R.I.P tink! i shall miss our sunsets over the wburg bridge and our fights about windshield wipeage, gas mileage, and overheating :(

car shopping is maddening!

i say go with your gut and with what you want. i have never seen more car commercials, cool vehicles on the road that i have never seen before or websites than i have in the last week! perhaps i am noticing now bc i am searching (duh) bit it's MAD i tell you. you start to consider crazy things like "FU*K IT i'll just get a brand new land rover... pay it off by the time i'm 50" or "eh, i can deal with it having 50k miles on it- it's a nissan an it will run forever"... i hate not being able to make a decision and need that little friendly elf i may or may not have mentioned before (you know the one that just makes all my decisions for me) he seems to disappear when i need him! oh well, it's just money and it's just a car right? nothing is forever and we all gotta make choices every day....

busy hump day

not much to report today. fell asleep watching another movie- why oh why do i sleep like a little bebe every time i sit down (anywhere)? i guess some people would rather have this problem than the opposite but its terrible when you'd rather be awake and hang out and or watch a movie! granted it was gweneth and some toher guy who kinda bugs me in a movie called 'possesion'... some cross ref between and old time love story and a modern one-- blah blah ... no wonder i snoozed.... anyhoo, back to my POWER POINT which i'd rather die than complete. when didlame ass corporate america turn into lame ass soulless ppt presentations!?? hmmmm- riddle me that!?

is it so much to ask

that women not be totally disgusting in the "ladies" room? jeez louise!! how old are we? are you potty trained? do you have childhood issues? well if so, i'm sorry but you can certainly either use the rest room properly AND OR clean up after yourself! nothing is more aggravating or despicable than pee (or worse) on a toid seat. gimme a break ladies! the mens room is prob better. there should be a fine for each time you leave the restroom in the disarray that you do (whoever you are) karmas a bitch so....

blabbering tears, heart warmth and NUBS

i was watching conan last night and the guest was brain dennis a mgr marine and his friend nubs. be still my heart! this dog was found badly beat up, abused and tormented in iraq by the soldiers and brian and his team nursed him and eventually raised the funds to bring him home to san diego. nubs has his name because his ears were cut off by an iraqi soldier, but he is the sweetest and cutest thing you've ever seen! nubs followed brian and his team to base over 75 miles after they cared for him and bandaged him and nursed him back to health. i was a mess on the sofa obviously, liz probably thinks i'm nuts when i cry like a baby over things like this. watch the conan clip and have your own sob fest!

couple things...

i recently saw 'shrink' w kevin spacey. i love this man and he can do no wrong. any film he is in is BETTER. its a great depressing yet feel good movie! clasic kevin and great stuff from keke parker (the young troubled girl). good stuff- rent it.

next i ran some errands including the city and to look at cars. arrrg. the thought of a burden is annoying but the burden of a broken down tink is worse! need a reliable car before i am left with nothing and before tink has no trade in value :( may get a cute little black jetta? we'll see what happens!!

obsessed with a new product i found. normally i don't share beauty secrets bc i need all the help i can get but this is just too good. jonathan antin hair dirt! yes that's right i love to be dirty this much. i know there are other women out there (bc this product exists) that liek their hair better the day or 2 after a shower when its a tad dirty and has some natural oils back in it etc. this spray give you that the minute you finish blow drying or the next morning if you shower at night like i do. i love it! *disclaimer- hold it far far away from your noggin and use a very light wafting bc it's powerful but it'll give ya instant volume and tussle. cheers!

wendy i love you

not much to talk about today. in a crab apple BUT there is talk of a 12:30 lunch meet at none other than wendys! this is exciting. besides it being the bestest quick serve food out there i have a bit of childhood nostalgia for the place. my grandparents used to love wendys and would take me all the time. i am now so old that i can recall when they had a hot bar in their establishments. salad too i think, and toppings for your baked potato and chili and all kinds of great wonderful additions.... grandma and gramps took me to wendys on white bridge road (its still there) the day i got my stitches out of my ankle after kicking my foot thru a glass door! (bit of a tantrum- things haven't changed at all in these 30 years). the hot bar is gone but wendys still reigns supreme in the delish category. if i had my way i'd order the following for a lunch or dinner:

+ jr bacon cheeseburger

+ small frosty

+ small nuggets

+ small chili

+ small fry

banban has not ever had wendys!!!! please take a moment of silence for her and pray that we make it to our planned lunch!

mexican themed post

last night i had dinner in the front seat of my car from the endless summer taco truck (located year round at bedford ave and n 6th) this little truck is as good if not 10 x's better than any mexican spot in or out of the hood. always served up by some cute hipster boys to boot, the tacos (fish, chicken, pork, beef, seitan....) are all super fresh and tasty. the corn is always cooked to perf and slathered in butter, mayo and spices. mmmmm. they are also available for catering (thinking of having a party just so i can serve it).

on another mex themed note if you have not seen the movie frida please rent it! i was on the way to work listening to the radio and some great mexican folk came on and reminded me of the movie as well as the amazing frida costume i saw on halloween! i am in love with her life and her work and the portrayal by salma hayek was incredible.

i heart sandra

watched the proposal finally! i have been waiting and waiting and keeping this puppy in the back pocket. as predicted it's predictable and ADORABLE :) sandra can do no wrong in my eyes and anyone who disagrees can bugger off. ryan and her make a pretty great comedic duo in this one and play off each others strengths as quirky naturally funny kids. its cute. rent it.

such a great halloween/birthday!

was such a good time seeing my fam! my mom, pop and brother came in town for mom, russ' and my b-day! good times as always! some highlights:

the waverly inn 16 bank street (at waverly place) 212.243.7900 this place was well worth all the hype and more! maybe it was the company that night and that teh whole fam was together? but this goes in as one of the top 10 dinners i have ever had. the place is so quiet and quaint and warm. all servers/staff was amazing and nice (2 free desserts on the house for our b days) and the food!?? to die! so amazing. the vegetable salad app was the best veggie anything i have ever out in my mouth. we also had tuna tartare and crab cakes. my dish was the free range chicken cooked to perf with a mushroom blended something puree and sauce that was fantastic!! everyone loved their food!

halloween night was oodles of fun. we all got ready in the rents hotel and off to the thompson 190 allen st bet stanton and rivington hotel party which was great!

sunday night was b day dinner at joes shanghai (where else) 9 pell street near bowery 212. 233.8888 which i learned takes a rsvp for a party of 10 or more! and was one of the best b days ever! spent w great friends and the fam! :) did i mention i was serenaded by the restaurant and one of the chefs??

had a great birthday
