permanent lard weekend

seems alls i did was eat this weekend.... friday night i had joe's shanghai and 16 handles! mmmm. i said if i ever really adopt a dog (or a child) i should name it joe16 as these are def my 2 favorite things on the planet.

saturday i ran around soho and shopped all day but thankfully browsed and did not purchase! m and i fought w a chinaman about the fixed prices of light fixtures and then it was off to graziellas for some much needed pizza after we had permanent brunch 95 1st ave (bet 5th and 6th streets) 212.533.3515. i have been waiting to try lesly's new spot since it opened a couple months ago. there was a wait of course! not so bad- maybe 20/25 mins. then we sat and had some pretty good coffee (out of glass mugs- my fav) ordered and waited. and waited and waited. we had to go pay the muni meter twice. finally after about 45 mins or so we had our food. which was indeed pretty damn good. biscuit w jam and butter was great as was my egg white omelette (with tomato and onions) and the 2 sides of bacon! one hungarian and one from kentucky! i also had granola, yogurt and fruit. everything was on par AND when the bill came it was HALF off due to the long wait ( i am almost certain this is because i asked if lesly was around and dropped the owners name but either way- i will be back just because of this. the spot itself is quite small and i didn't expect it but its cozy and is decorated in true lesly style! congrats!

sunday was park slope walking and talking and again i managed to spend no $$! except for on FOOD. i had brooklyn label yesterday (so-so) its not so great these past few times... i had granola and fruit (again *not sure why i am so into this lately??) am broke and trying to save a bit so lar lar and i can go someplace this weekend for the last weekend of the freaking summer (shoot me now). oh how i love the warm weather! HATE the cold. also had leftover pizza and chinese for an early dinner-- along w cherries and blueberris and GRANOLA (again) for dessert. and PASSED out around 9:30. caught up on some major zzz's this weekend!

cheers and happy monday!

nuthin

not much to report. went home last night and ordered some dinner and watched sweet home alabama w reese witherspoon and mcdreamy. i love that stupid movie even though i hate reese. its funny bc the movie is all about some down south girl that moved to nyc and became jaded and cool and bitchy- then he goes back home to alabama to serve her hubby divorce papers so she can marry a hip wealthy ny'er. the whole time she knocks where she's from and is embarrassed by her family and her upbringing. not sure if someone from nashville (where she's from) wrote the script just for her bc its pretty much what happened to her in real life- the movie is a lot sweeter than she is so i won't ruin it for ya... the movie was a 2002 flick so reese is even more crumby/stuck up now. she grew up right around the corner from me so i know peeps that know her and have a few choice things to say! fell asleep on sofa around 11 and never moved, woke up this am thinking is was saturday and was mad when it wasn't but secretly hoped it was the whole drive to work and that no one would be here.

at least its (a wet) friday!

blasphemy!!

gentrifying sh*tfacef%ckbag's need to step off. in my hometown they are constantly revamping things and calling very old school neighborhoods by new fancy names etc. the OLD SCHOOL awesome staple donut spot that's been around since 1977 and was/is right next to the highschool i graduated from has a dope old nostalgic sign that developers and A_HOLES are complaining about. they want the shop to create a uniform sign that matches w the rest of the redic strip mall. i am furious! they're awesome sign is pictured here and the full article is below:

arrrrg!

r.i.p jag

today el jaguar will be donated to kars4kids! i always drove by these billboards and laughed bc i did not get why 4 year olds would need a car?? but donations go to help kids in need so its a great thing! we will miss grandma's car! :(

brooklyn (toilet) bowl?

last night we beat the massive crowds and went bowling around 6:45/7 pm at bk bowl 61 wythe ave at n 11th 718.963.3369 . now don't get me wrong the venue is awesome, spacious, and has 2 bars but the food- garbo! like i said i love the space and while this is a "green" alley with pins on strings (?) and more narrow lanes than normal (liz noticed first and the first time i was there i knew something was off- can't take the southern outta the girls). but c'mon- if half of your draw is the fact that your tying your name to blue ribbon then don't serve me microwaved bland dog food- thanks! i'm just sayin- i don't expect to get anything more than some great beer and fries/junk food at an alley UNLESS you try to tell me otherwise. all the press around this place has claimed that some hipster-wooing chef's have part ownership and yadda yadda. my hummus was the consistency of glue and my chicken burger was so bland and so blatantly a microwaved frozen patty that i refuse to comment any further- blah. one very cool thing is the bathrooms- although there are no paper towels (just an ultra new hi tech hand blower that almost bowls your skin off your hands) which i hate, you can see the lanes from your stall!

see ya- its almost thursday- which means it's kinda almost friday!

early to bed... late to rise

last night was pretty uneventful. liz made me eat at veracruz (mexican) on bedford and i am feeling like caca this am. i have been kinda exhausted lately so fell asleep at 9:45 pm. i woke up for a sec around midnight sent a goodnight text mid-sleep and promptly fell back asleep. the more sleep i get the more difficult to wake! arrrrrg. just want to be in bed; snug as a bug in a rug. :(

8/24/09

someone loves me

i received a bacon-gram!! :) um could anything make me happier? i think not!

weekizzle

friday evening was dinner w lar lar and liz at la nonna 237 bedford (bet 3rd and n 4th) 718.302.5353 this is my new FAVORITE italian! its consistent and amazing. the pizza is always crisp to perf and they always have literally at least 6-8 dinner specials that aren't on the menu. all of them are always drool worthy! we also had a chocolate bomb and a tiramisu dessert(s). deelish. then i went home to write as i sat so full at the computer i am sure i wrote complete nonsense!

saturday was spent at honda in manhattan (along w some of friday) while liz contemplated a car. and then it was home to veg and off to sushi in gpoint and then to scoop up lexi for a stroll around the les and for ME to get 16 handles!!! i also am in dire need of their t-shirt that says "handle it".

sunday i tried to sleep in but SOMEONE (lar lar) woke me at 10am saying "brunchy??" arrrg. when someone wakes me with a food inquiry i can never go back to bed! so i dragged ass to the shower and went to teddy's w lar. i had fruit, yogurt and granola (very atypical) but my stomach has been quite the gremlin lately so i need to try to eat "light". then we went around williamsburg for some much needed (not) shopping. i am now in love with brook farm 75 south 6th st (bet berry and wythe) 718.388.8642 this place is so cozy and amazinlgy laid out. i wanted everything including 10,000 items i had no use for. lar lar got an amazing extendable ostrich feather duster (for a great price at $25) everyone needs a good duster! and i bought a ring and a necklace that i am in love with. the really nice sales lady/temptress informed me they will be getting in a shipment of some really great stuff soon! (bitch knows how to sell some shiz cause i will be back). they have amazing hand picked vintage jewelry and so many nice home goods. on the way we saw a dude that owns a local bike shop un;oad about 200 bikes from a rental truck- had to snap that photo.

later we went to lay on lar's couch where i am pretty sure i have phenomena from her -40 degree house. but its ok, she made me some amazing popcorn to munch and then made turkey meatball spaghetti! and the views from her apt pictured above are amazing!! then we went to girltalk at the park (formerly the pool) concerts. wow on the hipsters that descended here yesterday. i have never been so close to an anxiety attack/over stimulated form outfits and "presonalities/drug use". wow wow wow. BUT it wa so much fun to dance and chill (in the rain) and i was stone sober! go me! overcame a panic attack and danced it out.

later it was dinner (at kinara-again) yummm indian in ft greene. w m :)

sweet baby jesus!!

finally went into/discovered huckelberry last night in the hood 588 grand st near lorimer 718.218.8555 really cute place w back yard and decent relaxin' music. great little bar (fancy) "snack" menu. with what else but "baby jesus" under the chartucerie section! don't believe?? see photo

thank baby jesus its friday!

ps- just received the following text frm my coworker "not going to make it in today! crazy allergies! can't stop sneezing!" end quote

nice view

last night liz's car completely shut off and broke. i guess in front of lexi's amazing apartment wasn't the worst place in the world (as you can see from the pic of her view)! m. roth/l&m to the rescue as usual... car issues are the worst! oh, and i started my day at the office w a flower delivery! that never happens to me! someone must think i am special. :)

8/19/09

gator loose in the office!

andrew was on the scene to contain the reptile!

all i have to say is...

BARF. work event last night (bar event) for charity... nuff said. painful. oh, and when i tried to order a bfast sandwch at mcdonald's i said: "can i please have a bacon egg mcsandwich..." classic- this is not what they are called apparently.

happy hump day.

8/18/09

yay for me!

last night i finally started writing like i have told myself i would ever since i dropped $999.99 on a mac! granted i peck and do not type it was amusing- but i am pretty quick anyhow. i didn't even mean to. it took me long enough just to install the iwork software (which is really cool btw). but i sat down kinda bored last night at 10:30 and didn't get up til about midnight. by then my eyes were tired and so was i. ready to crawl in bed i discovered a giant puddle of cat pee. awesome! and if ever you have smelled cat pee you know you have to immediately remove it as best you can and then wash the hell out of whatever it is that has been soiled! and i so fear that since the cat has peed there once it shall always pee there! arrrrg. i dropped all my stuff off at my fav laundry mat and it will be done later. luckily there was no mattress damage as i have a feather bed (phew). blah- not a fun night and thankfully i had a whle change of clean sheets/quilt etc.

busy weekend

friday evening was bowling at bk bowl wythe ave at n 11th street 718.963.3369 (*call ahead) for meeko's b day. it was finally enjoyable and not totally slam packed. we had 2 lanes and a dedicated bar wench as well as a server for the yummy foods they offer at the bowl. i did not eat for i had eaten dinner before i arrived butt the cheese fries w a side of gravy and the hummus looked divine. i bowled a 113 or something around there- not bad for no warm up and being rusty!

satuday was the mets vs the giants at citi field. the
stadium is rad and the traffic situation and the lay out was great. not much frustration for game day so that's always a plus! the food stands are pretty good (i had some nachos w chicken, a sausage and peppers (but it was a patty not a link) and some fries from shake shack). giants won 5-4 and it was a scorcher out on saturday but the adventure was fun
!

sat eve liz and i ventured into the city to find a low key hip hop spot and we did! right after we dined at chickpea on houston (near eldridge). this chain is all over manhattan but was actually quite delicious! really tasty! their logo looks like a little tush but their food does NOT taste like boody! then we walked down to bob bar 233 eldridge between bouston and stanton  212.529.1807
we had an awesome bar tender that made us amazing drinks (1 white gummy bear and 1 57 something that was so yum i had to photograph it) and a shot... good dj nice staff.... then we attempted to go to union pool (NO NO NO) can't even deal w the hipsters no mas. it was cool
when i first moved to bklyn (like going to the zoo and liking it) but now its like going to the zoo and becoming depressed (which happens to me these days). blah. grannys were home by 12:30.

sunday was brunch at teddy's and shopping in the city! and after a killer 60% off EVERYTHING in the store at LF we went to sephora (which i loathe and despise w every ounce of my being but had a mission for lipstick and a sharpener) and i dropped $45 bucks on crap. then off to gap (5th ave and 17th street) for a while where upon leaving i realized i didn't have my sephora bag. scoured the store for a good 15 mins and asked every sales person as well as register clerks and nothing. flushed $45 down the toid! FURIOUS and to whoever STOLE my goods- karma's a bitch! in some countries they cut off limbs for stealing- i'm just sayin....

after my tantrum (which is still ongoing) we stopped at the pool concerts in brooklyn (which are hmmmm- no longer at the pool (mccarron)) and watched more hipsters frolic to and fro and watch a really STUPID band that kept talking about excsatcy (sp?) and drugs and masturbation... ya'll were really cool.

the end. happy monday

WOOF

in major pain from the mexican i ate last nite! went to grand moreles 727 grand st (near graham) 718.218.9441  haven't been in about 2 years. this place has it all: waffles, burgers, mexican fare and a GIANT cabinet of desserts of all kinds. waaaay too tempting. i had combo fajitas (beef and chicken) and some guac and chips. i guess i am in such pain bc i haven't been eating like my normal self in a couple weeks. woah is me! BUT it is friday!

cheers

8/13/09

liz and russ may not be hitched (yet) but as you can see from their yearbook pics- they go way back!

too bad i don't really eat lobster...

have i mentioned my love for...

marching bands? don't know why but i am in love w marching bands. if ever i get married i want one at my partay! one of my fav days ever was 4 or so years ago when i was dating a guys who's mom lived on 60th and park and we awoke one am to the sound of marching bands. when i looked out of the 10th story window there were 4 or 5 different bands practicing for a huge 5th ave parade. was pretty damn cool and enjoyable. that's all....

almost friday.

note

web sites/aka distraction world REALLY piss me off when they are so jam packed w info that my eyes want to literally explode. i have a couple of examples thus far and will be seeking new ones to add to the cbowl under "eye ball explosions". here are a couple:

+ tony (time out new york)
+ huffington post
+ drudge report (per con dog but seriously a bad one! the pic is evidence)

stay tuned for more of my rants....

gracias

another busy day...

saw 500 days of summer last night at BAM. LOVED it and have obsession w joseph gordon-levitt! great flick and i always love zooey d. great love lessons and or lack there of from this flick... indie greatness of summer 09'.

saturday we attempted brooklyn bowl- what a bust! the space is rad but a 4 hour wait to bowl?! thanks, but no! i realllly wanted to bowl as well, but now am turned off by this giant hipster alley! i'm sure i will return w the intention of havin drinks as there are 2 bars and the space is great and vast but as for getting excited about putting on some grubby ass shoes and tossin the rock- not so much ;(

8/6/09

baby hampstah!

ello

good day. its almost friday! i neglected to report on the movie i watched the other night! 'obsessed' with none other than beyonce and ali larter. wow this was a doosie. what a crapper- doesn't even rival any of the other psycho chick flicks. well played by beyonce although it must not have been too tough for her to act in this flick as the whole movie reminded me of a bad music video where someone is cheating or being suspected of cheating.... blah. it was a big fat let down and there's not even a cool twist or motive! 1 star rating.

8/5/09

holy horoscope!

good ole rick (levine) always comes through. i read rick's horoscope every am. its kind of a ritual... you should check out his stuff: http://www.tarot.com/astrology/daily-horoscope/

he's an old, um... wise-looking fellow and its kinda creepy how his astrology seems to be on point most days! i am a scorpio and mine for the day is below:

You are polarized today between personal and professional goals and the current Lunar Eclipse has stretched your nerves as far as they will go. Something has to give, yet your relentless determination to do your best work should override any emotional distractions, even if they seem temporarily overwhelming. But don't discount your feelings entirely, for they are sending you an important message. For now, it's just a matter of establishing your priorities.

8/4/09

hey- that's an amazing hat!

yesterday whilst hanging out w liz at work (brooklyn fox) 132 n 5th (btwn bedford and berry) 718.599.1555 i helped a reallly nice gentleman buy his galfriend some bras and undies! he had impeccable taste, was dressed very well himself and had a neat hat on. welllll, he happens to own still life (a hat store on orchard) and hand makes all of them. hot hats for hot men (and i think they have women's as well). check out his site: http://stilllifenyc.com/index.php?page=bio.php

ye ole weekend

even though my stomach has been a MESS twas a weekend of a bit of food now that i look back on it. friday after work liz and i did laundry at the big ole 24 hr spot on bedford and then went to dinner at caracas 291 grand st (near bedford) 718.218.6050 this is the second time i have been to this spot and its deelish! we had a special soup and salad and each of us got our own arepa (sandwich). i had chorizo and chicken w avocado and greens and some other stuff (could there be amore perf sandwch for me?). liz and russ' were purdy damn tasty as well. friday night was drinkin at the house w liz and lar lar and off to ella, fat baby and hotel rivington (rivington near the corner of essex). lar has a home boy at hotel riv so we were treated RIGHt to say the least! penthouse party and comp bottle of vodka.... the views from the room/roof were amazing!

saturday lar, liz and i went to the beach! it was a perf day and we had a surprise visit frm melissa - my home girl from work that lives right on the beach. we were a big hung over so HAD to stop at burger king on the way for fries and then for paninis once we arrived. such fun and such nice weather! g.i joe promo on the beach complete w helicopter, ladder and g.i. joe like man! sat night we were chillin on bedford and had dinner (way too late) at la nonna 237 bedford (bet 3rd and 4th) 718.302.5353
this spot is consistent as they come- always yum.

sunday was a RAINY ass day and while i didn't end up at the shooting range (yet) *a suggestion form a friend that was a brilliant suggestion and we will be going soon! i did end up sogged out playing around on bedford w lar and liz and finally going to egg 135 n 5th near corner of bedford) 718.302.5151 (which i had sworn off bc there is always a redic 1+ hour wait and there STILL was in the downpour!) it was amazing though and most of their food if fresh from their farm! i had some amazing fresh fruit and lar had an amazing egg dish (what else would you order at a place called egg??) then had mexican for dinner and am HURTIN from all the foods of the weekend (and from other things in my mind). now it's monday- JUCK!
