working?

no one in the office this week except 3 of us! wonder what my productivity level will reach today? not much considering i hop on a flight at 3pm and am off to nashville for new years! excited to see the fam, be at good ole 118 by the fire and just chill! when i get back it will be a new year. i see great things for 2010! happy new year! enjoy your friends, family and tell your loved ones that ya love them. be thankful for another year!

i haven't mentioned andrew bell in a while although i have a link to his site on chili (under the 'dope' section). i am browsing his pics bec they are some of my favorite! and i need to print a few to choose from to hang on the wall in place of existing amazing original art that i will always cherish but that is too hard to look at these days. his captions say it all sometimes! he has so pretty twisted and even some pretty gross stuff on his site but his work is in fact dopey! ;)

movin' right along 2010

can't wait for the new year and for g-d knows what kind of old school crowd to celebrate it w in nash. this year has been sort of mixed with great and with not so great, but now i have a direction to move in -forward and into the new....  its CRAZY what can happen in one year! that's why i try to love and live for the day at hand as much as possible however some 'new years resolutions' are to change certain ways of thinking and doing. no diets, no fitness regimen, no hulabaloo; just going to work on me :) last day of the work week! and am going to a concert this eve w one of my fav people on the planet. can't wait to sleep in tomorrow and friday! smile. oh- that precious dog is supposed to represent ME in bed tomorrow am!

i like x mas even tho i am a jew! office-mates give you presents and thank you for all your hard work for the year! i got a SICK cooking knife and a gift cert for cooking classes at a super prestigious ny cooking school! also a bottle of wine which will come in handy, some candy etc... yay for presents!!

on a total side note-- i am starting a kitty committee. here at work there are a number of cats that roam the grounds and are fed by lovely staffers; they even have little kitty igloos/homes outside for them to snuzzle in. there was talk of the building manager giving directions to stop feeding them. this best be rumor bc me and the rest of the office would be up in arms i tell you! when i spoke w the security guards this am they informed me that while they are allll for the cats, part of the problem is tht some of the cats are sitting on the hoods of cars and scratching them up. he said some of the people in the lot driving $80,000.00 cars aren't too happy. BUT that there is in no way instructions to stop feeding them or take their houses away. this better be fact. first off- who has cars worth 80K here? maybe 1 or 2 people, second if they got that much $$ they can afford to have their assistant tarp their car while its in the lot. thanks! i WILL go to war! kitty KILLERS

salty and snowy!

the snow fall/blizzard was beautiful saturday! i love the snow and i tend to think its a lil fun when everyone is outside diggin cars and sidewalks out of the powder. ladies! get out there and dig your cars out of the trenches on the weekend cause you never know what friendly neighbors you'll meet! people are all helping each other out, having snowball fights and filming you shovel etc. fun times. just look at the pretty snowflake liz and i crafted! ha!

parking and driving in the city yesterday was a pleasure. no cars on the road (either partly bc of the blizzard or partly bc most people have already left to vacation for the holidays- either way it was amazing parking and no traffic). i had the hair did and while i can tell, no one else can. probably bc when it comes to change i am a ninny (hence my nickname given to me by b. noel years and years ago). i think i'll  let my girlfriend mess with it some more when i go home to the ville next week and maybe i'll end up w some serious change. speak of change am learining to embrace it. sometimes i like to torment myself and resist it but sometimes you need it even if you don't realize it for a while! hooray for a 3 day work week and the gathering of all my jewish (and other) peoples that are here for x mas!

i want my pj's and and to be chillin like this little fella (my hair however does look similar today!) super tired!! and a tad bit hung over. i behaved much better than expected, and only attended one office party! still even with 5 drinks or so throughout a 4-5 hr period of time wipes me out the next day. its like the alcohol depletes every ounce of energy, normal brain capacity/function and makes me HUNGRY. i can't type like i can on a normal day, i can't read or think-- it's all a mess. it was fun and the usual crowd pleasers/entertainers danced the eve away. was surely funny to see random office people in rare form!!! and boy were there some rare forms....

this week is coming to a quick close (phew) and i am mentally prepping for how i shall feel tomorrow after yet another holiday party and a stop at a nightclub to meet friends with a "table". this only means= free drinks and trouble controlling how many i have. i am going to try my bestest to be good and be a little less misery tomorrow.... last night went to the famous nonna w banban and liz. still full from: salad, tower, a slice and the chicken special! the special was to die (chicken smothered in a creamy butter sauce w mushrooms, peas, and ham topped w goat cheese).

have an appointment sunday afternoon for a haircut and COLOR. yikes- haven't colored the hair since the 90's (holy sh&t that ages me) and i am scared but need a change... who knows what will come of the appointment!? the photo above inspired me and i want a lighter tone with different browns/red/blonde woven in. i assume i will feel as sexy as her once completed ;)

aren't holiday parties grand!?

holiday parties can be fun, but when your single- BARF! its like some sort of meat market where people are looking to club a woman over the head, and drag her off to cozy up and hibernate for the winter. v took me to an associates party at la caverna 122-124 rivington st near essex this place is literally made to look like a cave and is a basement level bar so perhaps that's why i felt so... primitive? me and v mostly sat and kept to ourselves til 2 dudes approached and started to JABBER. one was a jew from long island who was half hungarian - hmmmmm really!? after we left we went to epsteins to meet guzzy and my friend darrren who just moved back to brooklyn! yay! where's his new home? why gates ave and classon of course!! and the hits just keep on coming.... suppose they will fer a while, but alas... friends (esp hilarious ones), beers and good fun conversation are like chicken soup for tha soul :) ! today is our office "holiday party" consisting of loads of food for all of us and tomorrow is another offsite party for a farewell to joe "tha juice"- gangster lawyer who's going off to open his own biz. that'll be a fun one and is right over the bridge at the delancy (one of my favorites).

how i love thee and will miss you til we meet again. i dvr'd and watched the finale of californication last night and this one was a doosie as well. my heart aches for these made up characters that david d. (and all the rest in this cast) do such a good job of bringing to life! i wish he'd brig me back to life! rarrrrrr. also watched the kardashians, another fav and they couldn't be more entertaining- and may as well be made up because no real family has their "problems" (or at least i'd feel lucky to! for the most part...).

something "clicked" last night, in my mind and in my dreams. need to cleanse and look ahead-- because there's not much of a point to looking back and being... stuck. the wise old rick also knows i am on to something (doesn't he always??).

the season finale for dexter was last night. first off- in my current emotional state i was unable to take the ending, second- sunday night is now over as i know it!! californication finished as well but i am savoring that nugget for tonight. i wont ruin either for you all (i am speaking to my millions of readers out there ;) but dexter's finale was intense and i am still messed up over it today!

bar hoppin

friday nite liz and i dined at a packed caracas 291 grand st 718.218.6050. had the yooje. chicken salad/guac arepa and the grilled chicken w chorizo and an empanada. dessert was jager and budweiser at the levee where liz dragged me (blah). the best thing about this bar was that one patron had brought their dog to drink. highlight of my bar experience only the little dude was kind of skiddish and running around almost as annoyed as i was at the heavy metal on the jukebox. 

saturday was acai breakfast at fabiannes all chill by myself and a trip to the plant store to replace a dead cactus (who kills a CACTUS!??!). ran to get a mani at cutie calls on metropolitan bet graham and manhattan where i ran into my favorite waitress form my fav bklyn restaurant- she's so cute i might eat her up. sat evening started at bob bar w liz (early! at 9) then to a holiday party on wall st to meet up w vanessa who was tending bar- odd crowd but all around nice folks. since liz came to the financial dist w me i had agreed to go w her to meet kyle and chris and canon (nashville buddies) and to say bye to cannon since he is movin on back to the vegas this tuesday. we found the boys at the dove (on thompson near bleeker) where it was packed and annoying. i must have been tipsy by this time because we WALKED in the freeze to botanica bar on houston and elizabeth (quite a few blocks in the cold i might as). by this time i was done for and went home about 45 mins aft we got to the "last" bar. plus i had a wedding the next day and didn't want to appear terribly single/haggard/depressed :) so i had to get some beauty sleep.

sunday was caitlin's wedding! i haven't seen her in years and how beautiful and happy she looked made my day! the ceremony and the whole shebang was much smaller and more intimate than i imagined it would be. the church was simple and beautiful on hudson street downtown and the reception was at the glass houses 545 w 25th street- bet 10th and 11th ave the 21st floor of a glass building with great views. the whole family looked amazing and caitlin was stunning! i only stayed til about 7 ish since i knew not a soul and the family was busy having a grand ole time and running around. after both caitlin's dad and her mom each got up to sing songs they had written (the whole family comes from a musical background) i was a blabbering mess got super emotional and it was time to go soon after one glass of champagne.

last night  TRIED to eat dinner at roebling tea room 143 roebling st (at metropolitan) 718.963.0760 the food was eh but maybe that's because my mind was AHHHHH? i had a few bites of a pork dish that would have been good if it was less fatty and some baby bok choy that was oddly flavored.  poor little brain is fried and i was so mentally wiped that i fell asleep clutching my phone at about 10pm. now i am overtired w a spaghetti brain. at least its friday... and i will most likely go home and not do much of nuthin'.

pizza cake!!!

bowlin' with the fam was fun and full of good food and drinks. we made it alllll the way to chelsea piers- 22nd street and the west side hwy. i broke 100 - i think i bowled a 124 to be precise in one game. then it was to bed bc an all day ahngover plus a work event and more drinks does not start the week off right. starting back up on the gym routine soon so stay tuned for how that goes!

after storms that scared the crap out of eek last night i thought today was gonna be a crapper. woke up and it's sunny and beautiful! feels nice out and sure aint' typical of dec. weather. let's see... what can i tell you? watched some of the first episode of 'make my line' on bravo. affluent people that want to make their own fashion line and are paired w designers and experts. i vaguely know 2 of the cast mates... record exec kevin black (interscope) and eric cubeechee (west coast dj) whose wife [ex] had their baby and cheated on him and is a slutty slore. blah. besides that i wrote... emails i will never send, some of the "book" and read some more of super freakonomics. there was so much hype around freakonomics i pick up "super" at the san diego airport (that fu*cker was 29.99! anyone wanna borrow when i am done??). it's ok, and contains very interesting facts. did you know that prostitutes about 75-100 years ago in the south raked in about 430,000.00 a year!??

last eve we (i) hung curtains in the livin' room since neighbors are finally starting to occupy the bldg across the street. twas a feat and i have not yet taken a photo to share but i will cause they are all sorts of kinda straight etc. they are dark so it'll be great for weekend hangover sofa misery. what else? oh, i had one of the best subway sandwhcs i have ever created. whole wheat 6in w bacon extra turkey, lett, tom, american cheese, salt/pep and mayo. mmmm. and i want to make my own monster! this kit looks too fun.. and i need a monster- well i have a little monster (eek) i love at home just fine but who can eve have enough monsters?? the site has tons of other cool stuff so check it!

best pastry on the west coast!

forgot to mention the most amazing pastry i've ever had. one morning faye and i went for coffee at this new little spot bistro 101 909 prospect street (bet fay and drury) 858.454.8801 and i happened upon a "jesuit". the word def has a religious connotation and believe that i would worship this thing... its layers of flaky pastry/croissant-like crispy and yet fluffy with a tiny bit of custard in the middle and a meringue layer atop! to die!!!! and the coffee was one of the best cups i've had anywhere.  i miss la jolla!

2012 tha movie

saw 2012 last night and boy was it quite intense! the graphics don't disappoint and the movie really does keep ya on the edge of the ole' seat. i found myself doing things like getting all tensed up and willing an airplane or a boat to get up higher or not hit something. you know what i mean? as if you were flying a plane (which looks easier than i thought by the way) or in charge of driving that camper? anyhoo cusack does really well and so does the big russian i kinda liked according to imbd his name is zlatko buric and lemme tell you how great woody harrelson is! yea, i didn't realize he was in it either... he does an amazing job! go see it.

crazy fish

visited the san diego aquarium w the bro today and boy were there some sights to see! i usually don't love zoo's aquariums etc because while i know people are doing good and trying to preserve in most cases places like those depress me. i saw some amazing things today - particularly breeds of jellyfish but still, there were some tanks that were too small for these guys to live life and enjoy.... clearly my favorite part was the shark that let us take pics with him. :)

serky turkey!!!

sometimes the best thanksgivings are the ones where you decide screw it- we'll try to cook in a teenie tiny little kitchen and no matter what tastes come out of it at least we'll be together and at least we have some grub! sadly minus liz we cozied up in the condo in la jolla and moms (i helped a bit too:) got crackin in a kitchen the size of one in a camper. usually we have a bunch of people over and cook a giant turkey and order some fancy sides and maybe some other guests bring a dessert etc. this year the homemade goodness was the best thanksgiving ever! mom made gravy from scratch, sweet taters, green beans and a gangster turkey. i demanded cream corn mac and chee as well as mashed tatos so i grabbed ready made sides and spuds in a box and made them myself! all 3 of my generics were daaaamn tasty and i was proud- i doctored them in my own little way, and they was gooood. :) family is rad and i have a lot to be thankful for!

obsessed w la jolla

every time i am here i start to ponder a move a little more and realize that my little bro got the brains of the operation!! 5 min walk to a beautiful beach, amazing temps year round, great community- helllllo. deelish food. last night the folks and i dined at bernini's 7550 fay ave la jolla ca 92037 858.454.5013 really great italian-like bistro. we had an app to dizzle for. eggplant involtini: roasted eggplant and mozz cheese warmed and topped basil and a great marinara. pops had the fish special (escarole) and everyone at the table raved. i had a fantastic chicken dish w capers, white wine sauce and veggies. service was impeccable and everyone was super nice. cheers to la jolla.

some things i learned this weekend/this am

+ it's really hard to make yourself realize you have to let go of something

+ the lyrics to kelly clarkson's song "already gone" are heart wrenching bc they are true for so many people

+ i'd not be sane if it weren't for my cat eek (and my sofa)

+ tbs runs really good kiddie movies all day on sundays

+ you can watch approx 4.5 movies and about 4 shows in 24 hours if you don't leave your tv (and can also manage to not hear a word of what your watching if your mind is elsewhere)

+ that a bowl of granola can make you cry??

+ the frozen spoon thing kinda does work for puffy eyes

+ you have to love and be comfortable with yourself first and foremost

+ need to be WAY more conscious of my mood and actions and make more of an effort- sometimes it's just the little things that matter most and can make a world of difference...

so glad to be gettin outta ny for a little- off to la jolla with the fam for turkey. hope everyone has a great thanksgiving and is thankful for their health, their friends, and their loved ones!
