ode to pies and thighs (that used to reside on s 5th and kent in bklyn)

i just couldn't go a day without posting a pic and this pic- well it takes the cake. this was one of my 3 or 4 OUTSTANDING breakfast's at pies n thighs before they closed (i ams almost brought to tears just typing that). r.i.p. and they were supposed to be re-opening in a new spot but the last whispers i heard were in feb of 08 its been a year since any news was posted :( i really hope they come back and make all their amazing hommeade lemonade, desserts (pies!-duh!), biscuits, gravy, bacon hash.... :( :(

i love you p-n-t!!

didn't do much last night...

except watch a dvr'd episode of this week's nip/tuck. OH which reminds me i MUST find the "hip hop" video that premiered on the show last night! it was done with that hilarious lady that's "stiffler's mom" in all the american pie movies (and many others- best in show, legally blond, zoolander...). she's a riot period! here's the link to the video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7afq415Hcpc

besides this highlight there was a very disturbing scene where a woman cuts off one of her breasts w an electric meat carving knife!! i am not kidding and i am not squeamish but this was MUCH! wow.

happy friday!!

falafel chula and fast cars

last night i procrastinated laundry ONCE AGAIN and ordered in falafel chula (sister restaurant of taco chulo) 436 union ave (near metropolitan ave) 718.387.0303 i like this spot. its usually pretty quick delivery (that's prob bc i live about 6/7 blocks away and am LAZY) and it's consistent. really good meats and i LOVE their red lentil soup. always hearty and thick and good! its a puree with a very small amount of those skinny noodles that are sometimes in the chicken noodle soup in a pouch that you add boiling water to (which i also highly enjoy). decent hummus (needs some salt) and really GREAT salad (with great pickles and awesome shredded pickled cabbage). yumm. besides that i didn't do much except go for a ride in michael's new ridiculous car which sounds like a formula one racing car when it starts and feels the same when your in it (also yumm-vroom vroom).

good day!

good love story flick

last noche i watched (and forced michael to:) 'the closing ring' with mischa barton (who gets nekked!) and shirley maclaine (who's awesome in this). its a world war II love story and is filmed in the states and ireland. it was a beautiful film about love and the test of time. i def teared up in parts and its was beautifully shot and well acted! if your in the mood for a cheese flick check it at bbuster!

oh- i am also considering buying my first mac laptop! i need a personal laptop and have for some time now. need to research!

busy as a bee! but time to purchase a step ladder online!

its been quite busy here at vitaworld the last 2 weeks! i like being busy rather than sitting here plotting things to post on chili bowl. i did however make another recent purchase that will undoubtably make my life easier! a step ladder! who would have thought that i have lived here for 7+ years and never had one!?? i need it for my closets-yes i have 2! they are really odd shaped though and TALL so i can't really reach the top 2 shelves! problem solved! i can't wait to go organize!

PA

this weekend i went to PA. i really enjoyed it BUt it confirmed what i previously thought.... when driving our car  back frm nashville liz and i got "stuck" there (there were random detours and road blocks and weird folks and for a sec i was nervous thinking abt horror movies like wax city) or whatver that movie w paris hilton is where the whole city is a front and only crazy murderous people live there and lure passers by into their death trap!!

not to fear! it was not THAT crazy and the town i was in this time around (bushskill?) was not scary it was actually cute but what it was was stuck in 1979. everything is cute but very out of date and so are the people. i kinda liked it bc it was a feeling of a nice slow pace. people were nice and what not. the town was tiny and there's a baking company that advertises by saying they are the bakery "by the traffic light"- not kidding i will take a pic of their label (that's on the amazing apple pie i purchased frm the cute little spot pictured above). the spot above wasn't by a traffic light---so i guess they just sell the bakery's goods. BUt this place pictured! woah! i purchased the following: 1 large apple pie, 1 set (3) of white choc macadamia cookies, 1 set heath bar cookies (these were the best! then i left them out (wrapped in saran wrap) and michael put me on "food restriction" because "mice got into them". i still wanted to eat the one on top but i think m threw them right out :( i also purchased a PA coffee mug so i can fill up at work and not waste so many paper cups! OH and at check out i happened upon a fresh HOT cinnamon bun drowning in frosting. i had to... and the lady was nice enough to top it off w hot frosting! that sucker was GOOD!

anyhoo- i am excited to go back to the quaint house of roth and next time go snowboarding (or re-learn to rather :)

also! check out the pic that i tried to enhance to show what greeted us when we pulled into the house (which is on the mountain). there's one really creepy one w just neon eyes peering out of the woods! and the other i messed w the settings so you could see the guys. there were about 12 deer and a baby eating food that the fam had tossed out for them! it was a neat sight and they were beautiful! they just stood there calm as could be with our headlights right on them. they were super calm until michael's 130 lb german sheppard got out of the car- then it was off into the woods (quickly).

last night was girly night...

last night shav and k-rock came over for laundry night! woo hoo. FUN times! and dvr'd bachelor made for great convo as well as shav's hysterical impression of a pregnant lady she ran into in the ER while assisting her own preggers sister. she is pictured here and she would HARM me if she knew this pic was posted but she's a naughty girl and probably doesn't read my bloggy! (maybe now she'll learn) murhahaha. :)

*shav also informed me that she may move home (west coast- oakland to be specific) this is UNacceptable! i may start a fundraiser and or move her into the serkin abode. i will not stand for it!!

yay! its friday!

tyra banks knows all

so, 2 of my lovely lady friends went on tyra banks to be in the audience and ask questions on air! this will be hysterical. my homie vanessa knows a producer and so she always gets asked to come and be on air (bc she's hot and can actually formulate a proper sentence and take directions) which is apparently hard to come by when your trying to organize these question/answers you see on talk shows *fyi-- its all staged! hmmm who would have though!?? i can't wait to watch this episode!

they had to ask ridiculous questions like "um... will a guy really notice if i wear makeup?"  and "will a guy respect me if i sleep with him on the first date?" hahaha!! glad she and kate got to go on the show otherwise they may have never know the answers to such questions! i will try to get a hold of this and upload somehow!

freezing in the east village

last night i went with my man to a going away drinks thing for some chick that's moving to la. he didn't know the address of where were going!??! (poor research on his part) and we walked the east village for about 15 mins in 10 degree weather (and i was starving!) if you know me at all this combo is NO GOOD! :) however when we found ella 9 ave a (btwn 1st and 2nd street) 212.777.2230  http://ellalounge.com/ i was pleasantly surprised. this place was rad! its something out of a 20's glam lounge/boudoir. they played really nice eclectic tunes and some dope old hip hop. the place just recently opened and i can't wait to go back. its beautiful inside with a small private (50 person capacity) performance space downstairs. i tried befriending the bouncer/manager-type fella inside. we'll see if that worked to my advantage when i go back.

after that we went to joe's shanghi 9 pell street 212.233.8888  for soupy bunzzz, scallion pancakes, and moo shu chicken (yumm) this spot is consistent and always tasty! i've written about joe's before! only last night i didn't have the pleasure of the other 2 dub eff's that came last time (og and james) and so i was forced to order conservatively :(

one of my favorite movies of all time

there's a 1987 uk flick called 'withnail and i' that's amazing. i can't tell you how strange it is but its priceless and some of the one liners and dialogue in it make for timeless impressions and hysterical moments. its a strange type of humor but if you don't get it---get the eff out!!

dope creatures

i love this artist! he's amazing. his stuff is funny, gross, cute and a mess but all are NEAT. here are a few of my fav's and the link to his site: http://www.creaturesinmyhead.com/

last night in the gutter

last night i went to the gutter 200 n 14th street (btwn berry and wythe) 718.387.3585
this bar/bowling alley is awesome! a ton of diff beers and a really big nice space with a bowling alley right next to the bar! i really liked the vibe and the decor. i didn't bowl bc i was tired and lazy (esp after my 2 chelsea checker blond beers) yumm. i can't wait to back and whip up on people that dare to challenge my bowling skillz. i am frm the south ya know!

after that i got a pizza from fornino 187 bedford ave (btwn n 7th and n 6th street) 718.384.6004
i love this pizza. thin crust and wood burning oven yumm-ness. they hv really
amazing calzones as well.

then i watched 'house bunny' rented from b buster. this silly movie was quite funny! i love anna ferris, she's always a riot. if you don't know abt this movie its a bout a 27 yr old playboy bunny that gets kicked out of the playboy mansion and goes to be a house mother for a sorority. i now have a fav saying (or 2) from the flick: "look at that box of cutesickles" as well as "i gotta meet this freakin' bird" watch the chick flick to see what i am talkin' about!

random pics from last weekend at mr jones (infamous wasabi martini's)

this weekend/daisy may bbq/cute kids and notorious

so much to report on a long weekend...

friday night kate and watched my dvr'd bachelor! we are suckers for horrible tv but its fun to watch these crazy girls get booted one by one! and trust me some of em are nuts-o!

saturday i woke up and had breakfast cooked for me (mmm) and then it was off to the car dealership in manhattan. i fell for the audi suv (hahaha in my dreams!) and after that michael, george and i went to daisy may's bbq 623 11th ave (at 46th street) 212.977.1500 as you can see form the pics we DID NOT mess around. can you see the size of the rib behind the fanta soda!!?? it was good bbq but fette sau still prevails.

sunday i went out to LI for football and FOOD. there was everything from very cute nephews to wings to pulled pork sandwiches to veggies and chis and dips and guac and pumpkin cake (brought by us) and homemade banana bread! trust me i had some of everything (and lost the betting pool) :( $20 down the drain!

monday i woke up feeling less than well due to the over indulgence of food... i met kate to take care of car stuff for cannon (he's welcome) and then we saw NOTORIOUS. in the heart of brooklyn at court street theatre! needless to say she (beautiful blonde) and me and michael were literally the 3 white folks in the spot. *note- this made it odd when in the previews (apparently there's a new flick coming out w beyonce (i think) and her husband cheats on her w a hot white chick at work and then becomes psycho!) think 'hand that rocks the cradle' meets 'fatal attraction'...anyway in a teaser preview scene the wife knocks the white chick out. needless to say the hooray's and the "knock that white bitch out" screams made kate and i laugh/fear for our lives and michael sat there and looked as us and didn't realize what had occurred and was like "WHAT!?..what is it? whats wrong?" i was like "shhhhh; nothing!!!" he didn't get it until i told him later ;) it was amusing to say the least and the line outside the theatre was about 300 people deep just to get seats. good thing i planned ahead and bought tix online and made us get there at 6:10 for a 7 show! kate also witnessed my gangster skills at rite aid before the movie where i beat the system and took my own goods in my giant purse rather than pay $4 for a bag of m&m's! i took my own m&m's ($.99) and some nestle white chocolate flips and a reese's cups 2 pack! ha! take that amc! although i did buy 1 medium coke and 1 medium popcorn and one hot dog from them so i guess they still win :( thx for blowing up my spot k-rock!!???

the flick was really well done! i liked it a bunch. i didn't read a thing about it before i went and so i was wondering if ole' puffy was going to play himself (which would have disturbed me) but he didn't and all the actors were pretty on point! the guy that plays bigge (jamal woolard) was amazing and nailed his authentic voice. there's some funny stuff and some serious stuff and a great story even though you know how it ends.

at least i balance my heavy drinking w smartwater!

cold weather and a tasty looking cold treat

i wish i could be in bed, or at the very least bundled up like this little guy! when its colder in my car than in my freezer something's gotta give! i DO NOT like the cold weather (but i do love the snow- hmmm conundrum) and may fly south for the winters when i am old and retired and can afford to do so.

on another note i DO LIKE pumpkins. i like the way they look, i like the way various pumpkin things can taste. pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin custard... and this ice cream looks yumm.

not much else to report here! but it is friday and we have a 3 day weekend! i plan on laundry and renting a stupid movie (like house bunny) on monday (or going to one).

yum fdny!

last night was pretty low key... i was in a meeting (where boobs and threesomes were among the topics covered-did i mention i really like my job sometimes?) til about 6 ish and then it was of to key food (which has a parking lot *score!) to do some grocery shopping in order to have lunch at work and dinner last night and just stuff i "needed" for the house.

i don't know if i have shared my unhealthy obsession with firefighters with you but, when i see a fireman in his gear well... i just kinda lose it. i don't know when this started, but obv it was when i moved to ny bc lemme tell you, the effect isn't the same at home in nashville! and a large part of the men that serve the amazing fdny are seriously handsome!!

so where is this coming form you ask? i have seen the elusive union ave (my street) ladder co. (IN FULL GEAR) grocery shopping only once (liz was my witness AND she also quickly realized  how ridiculously yummm they are in uniform). let me tell you- the guys in "union ave. ladder company" aint so bad to look at. the last time liz and i did see them at key food i asked her if she'd be cool with me starting a small grease fire in our apt. last night made the second time. i dropped my frozen edamame on the floor when i turned a corner and there were 3 of em in full gear (like the pic above). don't know what it is!?? but wowzer!

also kinda fun fact *one of my best friends dates mr july from this years 2009 fdny calendar!

ps- although i am obsessed w fdny no one "does it for me" like my man does! :)

cheers and hv a good day!

$4 for a draft beer and a personal pizza AND trivia!

charleston bar = 174 Bedford Ave (Cross Street: Between N 7th Street and N 8th Street)
718.782.8717
there's trivia night on tuesday. and every night at this bar you get a free pizza with your beer purchase! this place is a great no frills hole in the wall staple on bedford. team skinny fat girls (shout out to fuss who was our male member but allowed us to keep our team name) came in 4th place at last nights event! blast! we almost came in 3rd (with a chance to pick a prize out of the bag o' fun) the guys hosting the game are funny little jewey brooklynites and made it rather fun! one of the categories was "pickles" during which my friend vanessa had to inform me that condiments consist of "you know... like mustard, ketchup, mayo..." REALLY vanessa!?? thanks for the info! :)

nuthin...

i got nuthin today! i am in some sort of work slump. unable to snap out of it! i am addicted to vacationing and the fact that i have this monday of for mlk day doesn't even do it for me :( POOR me! i know, just venting.... on another note. i made some really tasty brussels sprouts last night along with an amazing (pre seasoned) tillapia fish fillet bought fresh from choice greene. twas nice! and so was the amazing red wine i drank! i need to get the name and i will share it with you.

in other news i found a fun website via stumbleupon.com (really great time waster!) my sis informed me of stumbleupon.com > it asks you what your interests are/what you like and generates random web content and sites for you to view (only bummer is you have to run your web browser thru firefox to get the stumble upon toolbar).

here's a site that was found using stumble.. http://www.wambie.com/foto_br-272.html

and some pics from it above. enjoy!

weekend of the double EFF (aka double F, aka fat fuck)

this weekend was filled with food and drink and a really BAD hangover.

friday eve me and some friends went to my friend lesly's new venue mr. jones 243 E 14th st btw 2nd and 3rd ave 212.253.7670 this spot is really neat and cozy and has amazing drinks (beware the "mr jones" cocktail (wasabi infused vodka and sake w cucumber) delicious and 1 is enough! do 2 and you'll be extremely sorry the next day (esp if you follow with a vodka red bull and end the night w a jameson!!!) ouch! however they also have great eats at mr jones! we literally ordered the entire menu between me and my 3 friends. the best thing i had was the "blt". this was perfectly cooked large cherry tomatoes sitting on a perfect piece of bib lettuce skewered and wrapped in really good BACON with a dollop of some nice mayo. YUM (we had 2 orders) other yum things to note: the mizuna salad (amazing dressing) and the edamame was some of the best i've ever had.

saturday was spent in bed!!! haven't been that hung over in a WHILE. thankfully some nice guy (aka my amazing boyfriend) managed to go to the store (my fav -choice greene *search previous posts for details) and we made a great bfast. didn't manage to leave until about 7 ish and went to cafe lafayette in ft greene- 99 S Portland Ave 718.858.6821 this is a new found great spot as well. amazing panini's and really nice mezze plate (hummus, tabbouleh, falafel, pita)

sunday was brunch at chez lola- 387 Myrtle Ave, Brooklyn 718.858.1484 (see my food pic above:) yum! and then off to O.G's (original george's) amazing upper west apt for football viewing where of course i brought double eff snacks (cheeto puffs, a variety bag of mini chocolate candy bars (one of the best mixes ever! i feel i may never find again :( snickers, milky way (dark and light), twix, and 3 musketeers) smartfood popcorn and flat pretzels and hummus of course. oh, we also ordered pizza! george's place is PIMP and i now wanna move to the upper west. amazing windows and a window seat covering two walls that could literally fit 20 peeps...

1/9/09

cha cha cha chia

my (shared) office has no windows; it is dubbed "the hideout" by my co workers/vita team-- i can sorta see out of windows nearby but either way i need some sort of plant. i keep forgetting to pick one up! i believe i will go with a chia pet. they always kinda weirded me out but i just realized they have a HIPPO! (hippos are my fav) i may have to see if i can get this to grow!

happy friday!

please take a look...

no this is not a photo shoot. besides my friend lara looking like a model--- OBVIOUSLY this pic is priceless! i want one (wouldn't mind having those tits either)! i wish it was one of those fake backgrounds you could stand in front of BUT this is in fact paris during her friends wedding festivities! love this pic!!

i think i need these

i have misplaced my favorite hippo house slippers! :(

wow on soul food in ft greene

last night i ordered WAY too much food for 2 (surprise) at an amazing spot i found on myrtle ave.
5 spot-459 Myrtle Ave Brooklyn, NY 11205 718.852.0202 this spot not only has amazing food but has a lounge right next door as well. open turntable nights, dope brooklyn dj's... (i will be going soon). what did i order you ask? one bbq chicken platter (that comes w 2 sides) mac and cheese and sautéed spinach. one roast chicken platter w black eyed peas and collard greens, one small side of potato salad (some of the best i've ever had) AND an amazing philly steak and cheese w a side of curly fries! yum! the people working there were super duper nice and were impressed that i was taking out for 2 ;) needless to say my dining partner was shocked as well (sorta).

check the menu--http://www.fivespotsoulfood.com/fivespot_takeout.html

nip/tuck

i watched the amazing season premier of nip tizzle as i call it. totally nuts and totally great mix of scandal, violence, blood, sex and serious issues! the new "look" for the season and the the art direction is actually really amazing. the intro is just...neat. anyway its on tuesdays at 10pm on fx-check it!
