shout out to my favorite "rapper" jay z

as usual famous people and i are on the same level... just came across this article which further exemplifies that i am on par with my food reviews:

been a while!

haven't posted to chili in 2 days! miss me?? been busy with work and kinda just lazy.... the folks are here! and brother gets in tonight. last night liz and i took mom and pop to "hillstone" formerly know as houston's (which we had in the ville years ago and was  fam fav!). with the name change came smaller portions, blah cold food, and just a more chain-y feel. MAYBE its cause we usually go to the location on park and 27th?? last night was e 53rd st bet 3rd ave and lexington 212.888.3828 the waitress was nice enough- all houston's staffers are trained to be super attentive. although my sis thought our server hated her bc she ignored her empty water glass... but she was aiiight. i didn't eat and only had coffee (and she didn't charge for it!). i had eaten a barfalicious reuben and side salad at the parents hotel. they are stayin at a fancy schmancy spot on cent park south (the plaza). too bad the food is way over priced and not good. shocking! mom's b day is tomorrow and i have made special rsvp's at a super exclusive spot in the village. i knew nothing of the place til it was recommended by a co-worker and luckily he got me in! wavery inn is supposed to be an all out celeb retreat. we'll seeeeee, and we'll see if the food is worth a shit. i shall be returning to inform you. my mom loves the celeb madness and always goes up to them with no shame and embarrasses the hell out of anyone with her (me /my sis). she'll be thrilled! see ya soon....

coffee and cigarettes

been eatin' too much lately in prep for the winter. i don't need this much warmth! will from here on out be on a coffee and cigarette diet. friday night i had amazing pasta with turkey meatballs and salad. saturday was semi healthy with a 12 noon brunch (egg whites w spinach, bacon (ok, and some sausage too) and sushi dinner. BUT i must explain the "roll" that sushi pacific 84 manhattan ave 718.388.3371 has. it's called chicken maki and consists of: rolled chicken scallion cheese crab meat and seaweed. mmmm! (oh the chicken is breaded like tempura :)

saturday night was jen's party at mocca lounge - 78 reade street (at church). twas fun and good to see jen! she looks marvelous. a little dancing and a few too many vodka sodas....

sunday was all hell breaks loose on food intake. cozy soup n burger 739 broadway (at astor) 212.477.5566 yikes on the days menu:
+ mozzerlla sticks
+ [egg white] omelette with chili cheese and onion served w french fries (which were not crispy/well done thankfully or i'd have been really doomed)
+ cup of split pea soup
abt an hour or so later
+ pumpernickel bagel w cream cheese, onion, tomato, cucumber
abt 3 hrs later
+ mad chinese food!
+ white fudge cover pretzels
abt 2 hrs later
+ mini halloween milkyway (abt 3)
+ munchies mix ®
+ gummy candies

the end.

**note while googling for pacific shushi's addy i have found grubhub.com which tells you who delivers and looks like a fun site! great! perfect timing for my wanna be anorexia :(

ps

question of the day- is it unusual that i have a favorite/lucky sink at work? there are 3 sinks in the ladies room and i refuse to use any of them but one. i also get irritated that other woman don't know this and attempt to use my sink when i am there, then i have to wait....

good day.

will burg cafe

last night ban ban and i dined on will burg cafe 632 grand street (at leonard) 718.963.0219 (i had a veggie and chicken pita w side salad and we shared an amazing linguine w roasted veggies and chicken!) whilst we made a conscious decision to move to copenhagen. we came to said conclusion bc of oprah (who else?) as she did a world tour of women on the show that was dvr'd (someone please try to tell me this woman is straight btw, i will never believe it. nuthing wrong with that at all! i'm just convinced she likes women more). anywhoo, copenhagen seems to be where its at; free schooling all the way through university, free healthcare, a tad of socialism yes, but with a happy healthy people who wouldn't want it? i dunno? call me crazy.... also caught a brilliant episode of nip/tuck which is amazing this season! now am super sleepy and holding my breath til the weekend in hopes that i can rest and not get sick before the fam comes next week as i feel a bit of a cold trying to come on but i will fight it to the death. oh and its oct 22 2009 and it's going up to almost 80 degrees today?? perhaps i feel sicklies coming on bc the weather is as schizo as i am!!??

this is why i am lame and read my horoscope ev day

oh rick, how i indeed think that you are magical! rick levine writes for tarot.com and creepily lists your life to a T each day in the horoscope section. don't believe me? check him out and i promise he won't dissapoint.

here's mine for today:

Although you might be inclined to take on a significant project today, it's smarter to wait a few days before initiating action. Instead of starting anything new, continue with your current routine for now. In the meantime, take a look at your finances and pay any bills that are currently due. It's better to put your accounts in order before you are in the midst of an emergency.

caracas and stand up

last night liz and i had 2 dinners at caracas (don't ask) :) 291 grand street (bet havemeyer and roebling) 718.218.6050 it was on par as usual-- the lack of veggie chicken soup perturbed me- last nights was butternut squash-blah. i had the chicken salad arepa which is chicken salad blended w avocado on a perfectly toasty arepa (mix of an english muffin and corn cake) anyhoodles the food was good and the convo was as well, since we rehashed the "breaking the seal" incident from saturday night (liz's misunderstanding of an otherwise very common saying). later i watched wanda sykes' newest stand up and found it quite hilarious. i dig her voice and flection- she's so excited an into her stories (similar to chris rocks enthusiasm). i am also SUPER pumped to have found out that robin williams will be airing a new stand up routine in december on hbo!

hung over

today was def a mcmuffin morning! last nights diplo/drama event was the favorite. in bklyn on n 8th in a warehouse raw space there were great tunes rocked out by roxycottontail and drama as i MISSED diplo bc he didn't go on until after 2am (when i left). i was a few too many in and granny had to get in at least 5 hours before work today! wow! hurrrrrtin. shout out to rpm/lylette/rene/o/military! i miss you guys!! xoxo

in other news i will be going to this eatery in the near future:

a lil nip/tuck

last night i ordered in williamsburg cafe (on metropolitan and leonard) can't find it on google at the moment?? it was quite delish. i had lentil soup (which was a puree-mmm) and a pita pocket veggie sandwich but i added chicken (they didn't add enough for my liking but then again who ever adds enough meat for my liking??) it had avocado, tomato, cheese, lettuce etc and was fresh and tasty. came with a small side salad that had a snazzy dressing that i also really liked. then it was to the sofa for the premiere of nip/tuck! (please note i caught the last half of 'glee' which everyone has told me is great. umm, it annoyed the hell out of me and all it did was get annoying recent pop songs in my head. not sure what the hype is??).

at least n/t didn't disappoint! i love this insane show and its the last season ever (frown). the art direction is rad and the cast is crazy and there are a ton of guests this season- rose mcgowan is now one of the surgeons girlfriends and she seems like she's going to make the season psycho and very interesting. in other news i am already SICK of trying to look cute in the cold weather and sick of people that can't take a hint! BAK.

good day.

hip hop evening

last night i ordered (gross) mexican from the hood - actually it wasn't terrible but it took too long and then the guy couldn't figure out how to buzz my apt and then he didn't have a price for my food and then we had to call the restaurant... i can't remember the name of the spot so they escape without a blog smackdown. then i proceeded to watch all things hip hop on vh1. 'the hip hop honors' aired last night and while i normally wouldn't watch such a thing, it was strictly a def jam evening. they basically took over the awards and celebrated 25 years in the biz (which is impressive to say the least) they are the only label in my mind and still going strong. if 9/11 hadn't happened when i was interning there i may still be there..... russell simmons, rick ruben and lyor were all sitting together in the crowd and the camera was constantly on them (i still have quite the crush on lyor but now my fancy rick). rick is in my opinion the biggest badass in all of the record industry. he's produced everything from insane hip hop to heavy rock and looks like jesus/santa. i dig his style and he's done a lot for music across the board. then 'behind the music' w 50 cent was on and i couldn't turn off the tele. vitaminwater had a few moments of fame and the rest was about how 50 was shot 9 times a while back... so, i had a pretty hardcore night- i guess some of my neighbors did as well bc my lovely car was key'd this am when i woke up- fuc&ers! glad they key's my already in shambles side door that has a huge gash on it anyway from a kid that ran his bike into years ago... idiots! now i am only motivated to kill everyone in my neighborhood and finally try to fix my previous door gash.

marlow & sons

finally ventured to marlow & sons 81 broadway (near bedford) 718.384.1441 this is what i love about new york in general; there's so much to try so many spots that open and you can put em' in your back pocket for a fun night out because there are so many options for food and fun... anyhow i really enjoyed this spot. the front room is like an awesome hipsters cracker barrel selling tons of (good brands) of candy, organic chocolates, chips, teas, spreads etc. with a really cute rustic feel and a great little coffee and check out counter. there's also a great selection of sweet treats from things in wrappers to things that are baked and set on platters. the back room is equally as dimly lit with more chunky country table and benches and a bar. the menu is small and not cheap but worth it and is always supplemented with specials so you may want to call ahead. it seems all the food is all made with love. each dish was deelish; i had some of the onion soup some of the prosciutto and a cheese selection as well as a frittata of sorts (made of potato's and onion) * warning this is served cold, but was still tasty. and the brocolli rabe (served with a sauce containing sausage and black eyed peas). i think that was my fav. down the block is marlow and daughters a neat little butcher like shop with all types of great things to take home.

camp grandpa fork

just returned form the weekend of amazing camping at cedar point campgrounds in the hamptons (yes we camp fancy). and fancy wasn't the word for the small town we [the boys] erected! we had 2 grill/stoves, a FOOD/alcohol tent, a condo (that v and i were evicted from first night), and about 5/6 other small giggle pods that kept us all warm and safe for the night.

v and i arrived w a pizza pie in hand around 8pm friday (thanks for getting us there tink) and watched as skinner, chad and med set up village! it was pretty amazing. we soon had fresh margaritas (* the grounds are "alcohol free" so you need to be discreet- i was first to get yelled at for this) enough snacks to feed the entire park of approx. 50+ families and my famous chili! i was told it was good, but what are people supposed to say when they eat your food right in front of you?? also had burgers and chips, salad, and when i tell you i've never seen so many s'mores eaten and s'more paraphernalia (lisa kim was the genius dictator that brought grandpa forks to camp- tiny metal 2 pronged tools that affix perfectly to the end of a good stick). grandpa's fork cooked many a s'mores and hot dogs throughout the weekend. in other amazing inventions i have created the "serk board" and as soon as i figure out how to sell a foot long by half foot wide piece of cardboard its off to my yacht and personal plane. i had this thing the whole time and became anxious when i couldn't find it. it does the following: protects eyes for terribly smokey wet wood, hold your drink/camera etc in your lap, is a lid for your drink so bugs don't try to gank your fanta, protective polite barrier when smoking and someone next to you doesn't, floor board for v's car so she could take the extra boca burgers home and not have soggy floor boards from the bottom of the wet box. there are a dozen and one other uses but i don't need anyone stealing my idea!

i enjoy long walks on the beach -and had one w v. i also shared a moment in the sunset with colin b from ammariti whilst taking the smart car to pick up fire wood. many a joke and korean folklore (teddy) were told, MANY s'mores were eaten (along with last nights chicken and rib dinner complete w marinated asparagus and eggplant) many embarrassing stories told, many soggy pillows and socks, smokey hair that wont stop smelling til at least a few more showers, and all around good times!!

10/9/09

its official...

i get to write about my giant pot of CHILI today on 'tha bowl'. after a brush with near death (ok so i only sliced into my fingernail but its waaaaay deep and way close to the finer part more so than the nail part) ALSO had to flush my eyes for about 10 mins after a red onion incident! i swear i've made chili a dozen times and never this treacherous. this may be because i diced everything fresh as opposed to mostly canned veggies (this batch is special and will be coming camping this weekend with the work people- IF its not raining bc if it is grandma will pack her chili and go eat the entire pot at home).

happy friday and here's hoping for a record 75 degree evening... and no more near death experiences.

oldest pub

first visit to mcsorley's last night! 15 east 7th street at 3rd ave 212.473.9148 this place is amazing and has been open since 1858 or so... as i drunkenly texted to someone last night "abe mothereffin lincoln drank ale here". kind of cool! the place has an amazing old feel and the staff is pretty old world as well, taking no shit from anyone and slammin' ale's on the table like um, it's their job?? amazing old articles and artifacts all around. the beers are 2 for $4.50!! and they are small and go fast so beware!! i had about 10 (*note this is not normal for me and should indicate the size of each ale) also you only have a choice of 2 beers- dark or light! AWESOME thank you for being an old school radical bar where i don't take 47 minutes to think about what i want to drink! want more choices? for food? here are your options daily bc this place sticks with the old and for that i heart this place:

+ cheese and onion and cracker (aged cheddar)
+ turkey sandwich (described to me as one slice of turkey and sh*tload of onion and a ton of cheese on really good bread)
+ liverwurst sandwch
+ boiled ham sandwch

however the specials:
+ burger and fries (which smelled like g-d himself) for 5 bucks
+ chili !!!!

why oh why did i not order any of the chili and fries :( oh well... always next time!

and guess what having 10 ales (and no dinner) at MCsorley's ='s a MCSANDWICH treat in the am!! :)

oh yeea- happy 26th (you BABAY) matty! we were there for YOU! and you were in RARE form at the end of the eve!

obsess

for once i'm thrilled it's raining! excitement ensued when i heard rain this am as i awoke to my cat trampling my back and whining for food. why you ask? because it means i get to wear my new rain boots! which i got for 25% off at banana republic. i am in love. and now i think i want the brown on brown pair as well. i have the black with brown detail, but these will last forever i believe and who doesn't want to be cute in the rain, sleet, hail, and snow??

+ angelina and 8 kids
+ lady gaga

please let me know your thoughts!

movie review and day drinkin

saw "surrogates" this weekend w ole' bruce willis. what can i say, every now and then i am in the mood for a good si-fi flick. even though bruce is gettin' up there he's still a dope bad guy killer! this movie was weird! and was one of those far fetched what if's we ever as a nation allowed some crazy robot clones/creations to be mass produced. i personally liked the drama and the bruceness of this movie but i guess i would say to wait for the dvd (?) it's not necessarily a must see in theatre...

saturday i shopped around 5th ave (ha! like i can afford to do so) but i was there getting a haircut at dramatics (little known hit* this place is the best for the $ they have locations all over the city and are fair priced with great stylists). $50 for a women's wash, cut and dry. that a deal- http://www.dramaticsnyc.com/

also bought some rain/snow boots from banana rep where it happened to be 25% off any full priced item! that was a treat and i am obsessed with boots so it was extra sa-weet. then it was back to my casa to chill and watch a lifetime movie. my life is super exciting! later to visit cole and friends at 117.

sunday was alex's 25th b day party (bastard) some of us are saying gbye to our 20's next month. although his actual birthday is today (which means resisting cake at the office today) we went to blue seats bar in the LES to watch football and drink. tennessee disappointed (SHOCKING) and i didn't really care much about the other games. alex is a giants fan and they dominated.... sometimes i hate day drinking- it makes me sluggish and eh, but maybe that's bc all i had prior was a big ass bowl of cereal at noon?

10/2/09

upchuck!

yaozer on the eating i have been doing since last week! stop the insanity! not sure if its the start of fall (in full effect as fir me it's already freezing here- 50 degrees in the am) or if it's nerves of turning the corner out of the 20's and into despair. either way need to calm thyself! the office is DANGER zone 1 with birthday cakes out the wazoo every other day, cookie deliveries from vendors, pizza days etc. yuk, last night i had pasta and pizza (and salad) and chocolate mousse for dinner. liz and lara kept me entertained and then around 11ish i passed out on sofa from food coma while trying to watch gray's anatomy for the 3rd time last night on dvr and liz yelled at me for the incident- don't know why she despises this but she does! it's hilarious she gets so mad when i fall asleep in the living-room :)-

happy friday

hear ye hear ye

my friend kate sent out info re our book club and signed said email (o)(o) this is bc our book club is named NJB (not just boobs) [i will show up (probably) to meetings to drink wine and eat food but if i read the books i'll be astonished! esp considering i am trying to write one myself at the moment]. anyway -- she's really creative and funny and has nice boobs to boot; mine are a bit smaller so i came up with the following: (,)(,) (mine) and {.}{.} (old lady boobs!)

that is all for now.

carry on...
